I presume Elite is now available on modern gaming platforms and you are not playing it, as I once did, on a BBC Micro?

1OffManMental - 21 Jan 2015 17:03:33 (#3 of 290)

Why no Offline Play? WHY?

This could be Simcity all over again. Is it any good though kerebus?

MonsoonBloom - 21 Jan 2015 17:21:34 (#4 of 290)

I hated elite. My god was that a rubbish game. A poorly thought out and rushed commercial tie-in with little intrinsic gameplay, still more awful design, and a confusing plot. What's the point of a game you can't die in!!? And the collision detection was terrible! And that rubbish attempt at an isometric environment! No winder it was sent to landfill.

Monsoon posts negative post shocker.

Go away.

Hang on. That was ET wasn't it.

Marion - 21 Jan 2015 17:28:20 (#9 of 290)

Elite was amazing and I only had the rubbish tape loading version on my BBC.

MonsoonBloom - 21 Jan 2015 17:30:29 (#10 of 290)

Yes sorry i was thinking of et. Don't know about elite. Never heard of it.

Policywatcher - 21 Jan 2015 17:30:44 (#11 of 290)

One of the few computer games I ever really enjoyed.

MonsoonBloom - 21 Jan 2015 17:31:35 (#12 of 290)

Did it run on the mark 1 computer?

AshburtonAbove - 21 Jan 2015 17:32:17 (#13 of 290)

The only problem I had with Elite was when people used to brag about what status they had on it.

For example, I am Dangerous, what are you?

Eligelis - 21 Jan 2015 17:33:49 (#14 of 290)

I'm a different Michael Jackson album

AshburtonAbove - 21 Jan 2015 17:36:12 (#15 of 290)

BTW, I never owned Elite so I did not join in said arguments

toffle - 21 Jan 2015 17:44:19 (#16 of 290)

I'm a different Michael Jackson album

...Bad?

1OffManMental - 21 Jan 2015 17:47:40 (#17 of 290)

Harmless

Marion - 21 Jan 2015 17:49:59 (#18 of 290)

I don't think I got much above mostly harmless on the BBC. I mostly just flew about a bit, docked, then got bored and shot at a space station so cops in vipers (?) killed me.

Fatjack55 - 21 Jan 2015 17:50:17 (#19 of 290)

I still run it in a DOS sandbox. It's like being 25 again.

Eligelis - 21 Jan 2015 17:54:27 (#20 of 290)

I used to have a wonderful version of Elite on my Handspring (proto tablet, based on the Palm device). It used to be able to do all the Elite things, but could also be played as a simple starship trading game, without any ship flying or combat. lovely little game to play when taking the train home in the evenings.
