Smartphone games

Anyone got any recommendations for decent smartphone games which can fill the void during commuting, office or other dull moments?

Ideally visually pleasing and not Angry Birds, dodgy freemium games or worm from the early Nokia days.

But mainly nowadays I play Scrabble (known as Classic Words), Cribbage and Backgammon on my phone

There's another version of that (sort of) called Hot Wheels Race Off. Exactly the same concept but much prettier.

mini metro is all you need.

I second The Room. I still haven't finished the second one.

I quite like all the Can You Escape games.

Do they need to be free?

If not, I've played a ton of Lords of Waterdeep.

Cool, looks like a good list there. I'm coming to the end of 'Sky Force' which has been enjoyable but as a freemium game, dodgy af and taking up too much of my time.

Prefer free but have seen VR stuff that I wouldn't be against paying for.

JTT. It's free and you can participate in a virtual world populated by a wide range of characters enjoying themes both real and imagined.

Plague Inc. is a good one. You have to evolve a pathogen to destroy humanity, you're up against the clock as mankind tries to develop a cure and you can't make it too deadly as it will wipe out the infected people before they can spread it....

Although that's actually a distributed research project being run by the Illuminati.

Busman's holiday for you, that.

Threes

Also Drop7 and Orbital as mentioned

I like Pointless. It works well on a phone but there is no final where you have a choice of subjects to win the jackpot. It's the head to head part of it and you play against randoms (or like Scrabble you can select someone you know).
