Presumably we have to import the coal now?

Should be flowing out of Trumpland soon.

About 6,000 passengers will travel on the Appleby-Skipton steam service during the next three days

Buggrit, when it said 'timetabled' in the article I thought it might be running a regular service once or x times a week, but that caption for the picture has banjaxed any plans to nip up to Skipton for train ride on a coming weekend.

I love steam trains (even if they are not exactly commercially viable anymore) and would love to take a train pulled by Tornado.

Maybe the next time it comes to the Watercress line.

The Ribblehead Viaduct really is worth seeing. I've only seen it from the road on my way up to Hawes.

I keep meaning to drop a little video on the train thread of the Duchess of Sutherland - Oxfordshire Express. I saw it on a rare outing about ten years ago, highlight of a snowy day that closed down the W.Coast line and took 8 hrs to get from Manc to London on the slow routes. They didn't let us on :(

"Duchess of Sutherland"

I saw it at York just before Christmas. It was GRATE :)

Mucky little tinker.

The trains are all booked up now. The best plan is to get the 8:49 from Leeds, get off at Ribblehead and watch the steamer go past. The viaduct doen't look much when you are actually on the train.

Currently you can get a Settle-Carlisle Day Ranger for £15 (£9.90 with a Railcard) which covers from Leeds or Bradford up to Carlisle. (Bus from Armathwaite, though.)
