Plan our escape

It's very and wintry outside. Brexit looks like a bad dream.

Why not sell up and look for a place in the sun?

What could possibly go wrong?

Superficially, it looks attractive. We could sell our house here, refurbish a place and still have a fair fund. It can't be as easy as that, can it!

FleurDuMal - 19 Jan 2019 17:00:17 (#2 of 193)

We could set up a JtT colony?

mememe - 19 Jan 2019 17:00:45 (#3 of 193)

Christ.

wickeltisch - 19 Jan 2019 17:00:51 (#4 of 193)

Might be if you speak fluent Italian (or what dialect counts as Italian in rural Sicily).

FleurDuMal - 19 Jan 2019 17:02:39 (#5 of 193)

Christ

Nah, it’ll be fun!

WibbleAgain - 19 Jan 2019 17:02:43 (#6 of 193)

It's full of Italians!!!

wickeltisch - 19 Jan 2019 17:04:47 (#7 of 193)

# 6, No, they fled to towns and cities where there are shops, doctors, public transport and many other 'modern' things.

GrrrIbdis - 19 Jan 2019 17:07:28 (#8 of 193)

Looks great. I'm in! We're in, I mean. MrGrrr will come, too.

6to24characters - 19 Jan 2019 17:12:08 (#9 of 193)

Well I don't speak Italian but how hard can it be to learn?

6to24characters - 19 Jan 2019 17:15:09 (#10 of 193)

If there was a JTT colony, would we have to talk to each other in real life?

So what's the local broadband connection going to be like?

wickeltisch - 19 Jan 2019 17:18:19 (#11 of 193)

Well I don't speak Italian but how hard can it be to learn?

It will be a bit easier if you know Latin.

GrrrIbdis - 19 Jan 2019 17:18:31 (#12 of 193)

There's a church on a hill. That's all you need for local broadband. Satellite dish on the top.

Ryanair and Easyjet both fly from Liverpool to Palermo

6to24characters - 19 Jan 2019 17:22:45 (#14 of 193)

Speaking of which, Palermo looks interesting and it's not far away

Looks like a better investment and more fun than timeshare.

popperhead - 19 Jan 2019 17:24:50 (#16 of 193)

If I and my friends were retired in anyway comfortably I think moving en masse would be a great idea (well for the hippy ones anyway. Brexit could make it harder for the non EU ones though.

wickeltisch - 19 Jan 2019 17:26:08 (#17 of 193)

Palermo looks interesting and it's not far away

Google map says about 80 kms. 1 1/2 hours drive by car. No public transport available.

foghorn - 19 Jan 2019 17:28:06 (#18 of 193)

Running a locally registered banger would be a necessary expense. It´s like that in most cheapish alternative places.

6to24characters - 19 Jan 2019 17:45:49 (#19 of 193)

I feel sure the kitty would stretch to a car.

I feel that a small red Alfa Romeo would be needed if living in Italy

Tomnoddy - 19 Jan 2019 17:46:51 (#20 of 193)

The road probably would wreck it in a week. A small rusty Fiat.
