<adds fairy lights round the thread>

Good start!

I think I might be putting up at least some of my deccies this weekend...

helbel - 24 Nov 2020 15:08:56 (#4 of 488)

I got all the Christmas decorations and tree out of the cupboard at lunch (as I had the boiler serviced and the guy needed access to the meter).

Inadequate fairy lights are already up in the kitchen window, but I want to replace them. They are 2m, and really I need a 5m string. I can then put them somewhere else.

When do we get the festive usernames out?

helbel - 24 Nov 2020 15:10:09 (#6 of 488)

December usually.

tasselhoff - 24 Nov 2020 15:10:40 (#7 of 488)

Ok, ta.

The residents' association are doing "living" advent windows this year - 24 houses do a decorated window, visible from the street, which they light up from the relevant date.

We're number 18.

So far, I have bought some of these to provide the lighting:https://www.lights4fun.co.uk/products/140-warm-white-led-connectable-net-light-clear-cable-2m-x-1-5m

And have ordered a sheaf of coloured cellophane sheets to make the design... which I'm currently at a loss for.

I've wired up all the lights today - ready for switch-on on 1 Dec. I don't think I've ever been this far ahead of schedule.

Ooh, are you going to dark or cheery? Or cheery with a hint of darkness?

Ooh, are you going to dark or cheery? Or cheery with a hint of darkness?

No idea at all!

You think maybe I should do a display of coronavirus baubles?

breakfast - 24 Nov 2020 15:17:33 (#12 of 488)

Well, it would be tempting...

tasselhoff - 24 Nov 2020 15:19:06 (#13 of 488)

Or a backlit profile of a plague doctor.

Possibly with some tinsel round the brim of his hat for a more festive look.

staticgirl - 24 Nov 2020 15:23:25 (#15 of 488)

I've just ordered some chalk pens with a view to drawing some festive designs on my windows....

You could do Santa's little helpers on a zoom call.

breakfast - 24 Nov 2020 15:27:26 (#17 of 488)

A vaccine syringe with some tinsel round it could be uplifting.

breakfast - 24 Nov 2020 15:29:09 (#18 of 488)

Or some locusts that might follow on from the plague.

Kucinghitam - 24 Nov 2020 15:32:36 (#19 of 488)

We do have a complication in that we are supposed to be getting our windows replaced with new double-glazing at some point. Should have been last month, but the plague and second lockdown have hugely delayed the manufacture of our units and the company now say they're hoping it'll be "before Christmas."

So we don't want to design anything too elaborate.

Either that, or perhaps we need to design something that we can quickly remove and reattach.

Kutch, we do that too. Last year I bought a huge piece of white card, a huge piece of black card and did an Little Town Of Bethlehem image. I hung fairy lights behind and I think it worked well.

It was very easy to put up and take down too.

I haven't worked out yet what to do this year. I've only got about a week to sort it out.
