What Ladbrokes just did - how can this be legal?

So I was just killing time on my Ladbrokes app and I saw an offer on tonight’s football at 21/1 for any three of six teams listed to win and keep a clean sheet..

Thought I’d have some of that and bat my 20p

See post #1

I just got an email from them saying they made a mistake and the bet should’ve been 3/1 and they’ve changed my bet.

Surely if their app didn’t work and offered me better odd they have to honour that??

Don’t they?

I probably should’ve bet my 20p.

batting it was probably the error..

I'd demand my 20p back

If I recall from my distant haze of contract/tort law, if a mistake is made in the depiction of an agreement, which induced one party to enter into the agreement, then so long as a reasonable person would have thought it was a legitimate term, then the person making the mistake can be held to it. You certainly can withdraw without penalty.

21/1 seems reasonable. If say it had been 2100/1 then maybe not.

With the rider that while IAAL, I never practiced in this area.

Unless it comes in at 3/1. 60p is still 60p!

induced one party to enter into the agreement.....then the person making the mistake can be held to it

If it comes in it would've been worth £4.20. I might just go to the barricades for that.

I'll see how the results goes then sell my story to The Mirror.

For 20p, no one reads The Mirror.

Anyone got the number for the Oxford Mail?

Dessy Boy.

Go in and smash all the screens with a stool. That's what they do in Leytonstone.

Agaliarept - 07 Sep 2021 17:30:46 (#11 of 30)

Go in and smash all the screens with a stool.

It was on the app so I've smashed my phone screen. That'll show em!

Isn’t there something about gambling that means that they can’t legally enforce anything, unless it’s spread betting?

Agaliarept - 08 Sep 2021 09:11:12 (#13 of 30)

It's all a bit irrelevant as only one of the teams who played last night won with both sides scoring (Netherlands/Turkey)

Would probably look a bit silly complaining now.

I don’t know how people miss the clue in their name: lad broke.

CarlosFandango - 09 Sep 2021 22:59:50 (#15 of 30)

If you can smash screens with your stool I'd wager you have bigger problems than a missing 20p.

Tinymcsmithy - 10 Sep 2021 00:04:22 (#16 of 30)

That’s such a bad and puerile joke, but it made me laugh like a loon.

Agaliarept - 10 Sep 2021 09:34:11 (#17 of 30)

VG Carlos! (i had to go back and read)

I totally forgiven them anyway. I just found out they give you a daily "free spin" on this wheel game. So far this week I've won £2 and £4.90. I also found out I get 36 free bingo cards a day and have won £2.40 so far.

That's not bad considering my total losses this month are under £5 and it probably helps that I refuse to make any bet over £1.

They must loathe players like me.

AdonisBlue - 10 Sep 2021 14:55:47 (#18 of 30)

Nope, that's how everyone starts.

Yes because literally every gambler has a problem.

We're not all fuckwits AB.

I noticed some funny stuff going on on Ladbrokes + Coral (same firm) during those games I think - ie their odds kind of 'stuck' - many of which were quite favourable.
