How can I find an old school friend?

My best mate John. Not on Facebook, Friends United (when last I looked a couple of years ago), google, Ancestry.co.uk currently. I did find a 20-year old address for him on the latter and wrote to the residents; no response.

Any ideas?

As you say you have an old address, might be worth contacting Royal Mail to see if they have any change-of-address records.

You can search both telephone directories and the electoral register for the whole country on 192.com. You have to pay for the electoral register results, and it doesn't include those who've opted out, but more likely to get a hit than landlines nowadays.

Write to the addresses either side of the one you have and ask if they remember him?

Someone found me via LinkedIn after twenty years since we were last in touch.

I have remained in touch with everyone (3) I'd want to from school, and can't imagine anyone else wanting to contact me.

The cheapest option on 192.com is six searches of electoral rolls for £15.95 + VAT.

Many years ago they had a free offer over Christmas and I used it to find a university friend.

I had a school friend called Nicola Smith who moved to Australia thirty years ago & have been thinking the same recently, it's so hard when they have a really common name isn't it!

Just be glad she's not called Sheila.

Change your name to John Smith and move to Australia.
