The Second Thread for Losing Weight seems to have got utterly confused, so let's have a new thread!

Yay! Well done.

I am still in Christmas hibernation and leftovers mode, but I’m starting a YouTube workout thing on 1st Jan. It uses my Switch exercise games and it’s all worked out by a personal trainer. I did last years one in June I think and it made a huge improvement to my running.

At the moment I am only contemplating attempting to continue to be motivated by the Pikmin into a reasonable amount of daily walking. Really can't face the idea of any kind of dietary constraint beyond the "reasonable-ish common sense" at the moment.

I am at the leftovers stage of craving a vegetable. Sadly lunch is another quarter of pork pie that needs to be eaten.

Shopping on Saturday is definitely going to be healthy stuff. Though I’m not sure exactly what yet.

artant - 31 Dec 2021 12:04:41 (#4 of 102)

I’ve definitely gone off track the last couple of weeks. My intention is to have a relaxed weekend of lounging around eating all the wrong stuff and start cutting the crap out next week.

helbel - 01 Jan 2022 22:26:55 (#5 of 102)

I’ve done my Day 1 fitness test, and bought healthy food for the week. My fitness test included a weigh in. Christmas gluttony well in evidence.

I am joining in. I have 2 stone to lose this year, aiming for half a stone every quarter as am on two different meds which both lead to weight gain.

This is me too. Hello new shiny thread.

12kg piled on in the last 12 months thanks to mental health, drugs to fix mental health, comfort eating and total lack of exercise. Blaming mental health for that too.

Though some of it’s almost certainly me being lazy.

Hibiscus - 02 Jan 2022 20:36:29 (#9 of 102)

Hello new thread. My aim is to lose 10kg over the coming months. Christmas has led to a gain, but nothing too bad.

I think I’m aiming to get myself, we’ll ease into a more diet frame of mind in the next week, not a sudden change tomorrow, think there’s too many chocolates in the house for that.

AdonisBlue - 02 Jan 2022 21:02:01 (#10 of 102)

A couple of my mates have lost several stone each just by walking several miles a day. So I'm trying that this year. I think the key is consistency, going out every day in all conditions, so I'm off out now in the dark, wet and windy conditions.

My main worry is finding the time when I'm back at work next week. But it really has worked wonders for these two. Far better than their previous attempts at gyms etc.

helbel - 02 Jan 2022 21:07:27 (#11 of 102)

AB - have you seen the Country Walking 1000 mile challenge? 2.74 miles a day for the year. It does allow you to do more in one day than another and check off your progress. I did it in 2018.

artant - 02 Jan 2022 22:11:37 (#12 of 102)

I think I’ll also be easing back in to sensible eating rather than a sudden switch. Still plenty of chocolates and mince pies here and my brother is still visiting and that tends to make me cook bigger meals (if only in terms of having pudding more often).

artant - 02 Jan 2022 22:13:22 (#13 of 102)

And I must try to get out for the odd walk. Tricky here though (because of looking after my mum) so it may be about more gardening and housework instead (both of which would have great benefits in other ways too).

jayemdee - 02 Jan 2022 22:16:27 (#14 of 102)

After a long absence from these here forums I feel impelled to join in on this one.

I did quite well last year - got down from 223 pounds at the highest to 197 pounds, and then took about two and a half months off to cover a visit back to the UK in Oct/Nov and then Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, I seem to have only put about three pounds back on so I'm currently hovering just under 200 pounds.

AdonisBlue - 17 Jan 2022 17:53:37 (#15 of 102)

I failed already. Once back at work I simply do not have the time to walk 2-3 miles a day. It also means just walking up and down an isolated, dark village 6 times a night. I need something more intensive (and warm!). Indoor would be good too. I'm seriously considering a peloton type thing. Anyone got one?

Cordelia - 17 Jan 2022 18:05:39 (#16 of 102)

Nobody on this thread I think, though I know a few posters have.

Did you mean the bike or the treadmill?

AdonisBlue - 17 Jan 2022 18:16:27 (#17 of 102)

Some form of bike. I hate running but quite enjoy cycling. It wouldn't have to be a peloton, any half decent indoor bike would do. Not sure I want someone in lycra yelling at me from a screen anyway. But even if I could just manage 20 minutes a day it would be better than nothing.

helbel - 17 Jan 2022 18:34:07 (#18 of 102)

I’m doing terribly too. Though I’m through the Christmas leftovers at last.

Cordelia - 17 Jan 2022 18:55:17 (#19 of 102)

Zwift? Or do you have a bike you could put on rollers?

AdonisBlue - 17 Jan 2022 19:09:06 (#20 of 102)

I have a bike I could put on rollers. I asked about this in the cycling thread last year and the response I got was so abusive and unhelpful it out me off tbh.

So any recommendations for suitable, reasonably priced rollers would be most welcome, thanks. Oh I'm in the UK.
