Thread to post work by little-known artists that has just come to your attention

I think the header says everything I need to say.

I'll start with the Moroccan artist Mehdi Qotbi:

Just gorgeous.

By chance I was in Verbania a year or two back and caught an exhibition of Ettore Fico's stuff.

Jaw-dropping colours and compositions.

I love the Qotbi and Fico.

flossy - 07 May 2013 02:40:30 (#6 of 133)

Then you would love the works of Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri Rips. A lovely way to pass an hour or two.

Post 'em up, then!

Jon McNaughton. How have I been ignorant of him all my life?

I may even start a thread.

Ettore Fico is wonderful, thanks for opening my eyes to him CF.

CarlosFandango - 03 Jun 2013 15:55:23 (#10 of 133)

Glad he hits your spot. He is indeed wonderful!

I did discover a bleeding marvellous artist called Philippe Mahaut recently but can find absolutely nothing about him online. Shame.

I've just been reminded of an exhibition I saw last year of visionary architecture by an illiterate road sweeper called Marcel Storr:

Now on display at the Hayward Gallery. Mindblowing stuff.

Not exactly little-known, but I think Félix Vallotton deserves wider recognition.

As does Félicien Rops.

Macpaddy - 16 Oct 2013 20:11:19 (#16 of 133)

Damn. I opened this thread and the first post I read was from Ripliad.

I love Ettore Fico's work.

Macpaddy - 16 Oct 2013 20:13:20 (#17 of 133)

Striking similarity to both subjects. Both excellent with my favouring Vallotton's one there.

CarlosFandango - 16 Oct 2013 22:08:49 (#18 of 133)

They're both Vallotton, Mac - I didn't have time to find a Rops link before I had to, er... see to something.

And Fico is just magnificent - yes. Had the huge good fortune to stumble on the Paradisi Ritrovati exhibition in Verbania a couple of years back.

(as I said before, I now realise...)

André Lhote - should be better known.

Not sure where he stands chronologically in relation to de Lempicka and de Chirico, but there seem to be some influences and common themes.

Also - many of Vera Rockline's nudes are just fabulous - http://artoftherussias.files.wordpress.com/2012/02

More Vera:

Not all nudes, by the way.
