What artists do you hate?

Who when you come across a roomful of their work makes your heart sink?

Basquiat, Schnabel, Hirst.

Mark Rothko . A roomful of his shitty brown paintings makes me want to follow him in commiting suicide.

Banksy. Mear One.

On the simple grounds that they use tossy names instead of their own.

Pretty much anyone who does installations. I am old fashioned. I want paintings and sculpture.

staticgirl - 29 Apr 2018 12:46:06 (#5 of 92)

Also anyone who creates some kind of image which can be 'got' in 30 seconds. It doesn't stimulate my imagination in any way.

TRaney - 29 Apr 2018 12:55:48 (#6 of 92)

Gustav Klimt

Hate is too strong, but I’d be happy never to see the following again: Twombly, Koons, Dali, Hirst, Rauschenberg, Johns, Oldenburg, de Kooning, Basquiat, overly religious Italian Renaissance paintings, pretty much all installations.

Don´t hate anyone, but I always struggled with Joseph Beuys.

FleurDuMal - 29 Apr 2018 13:02:29 (#9 of 92)

Stubbs

I don't hate anyone either, possibly because of being visually tone-deaf and not very well informed. I was underwhelmed by a Matisse exhibition many years ago but I'd probably be more receptive now.

I can't say I hate anyone's work, Jack Vettriano leaves me utterly cold though.

Tomnoddy - 29 Apr 2018 13:07:58 (#12 of 92)

Eleven posts to hit Vettriano. Is this a record?

RosyLovelady - 29 Apr 2018 13:08:43 (#13 of 92)

I googled Rachel Gomme, who I knew when she was a child, not realising she'd become an artist. Knitting a Rothko!

I rather like the look of it, but I can see that it would enrage some.

FGBFGB - 29 Apr 2018 13:42:20 (#14 of 92)

Holman Hunt. Terrible mawkish stuff.

Shadrack22 - 29 Apr 2018 13:45:27 (#15 of 92)

Burne-Jones.

FGBFGB - 29 Apr 2018 13:49:46 (#16 of 92)

Some Burne-Jones windows in All Saints, North Gosforth. An unbearded Christ. Rather good.

cozzer - 29 Apr 2018 13:53:55 (#17 of 92)

10 points.

wickeltisch - 29 Apr 2018 14:02:57 (#18 of 92)

"Makes your heart sink" is not the same as hate. There are artists I find depressing or boring, but hate them? You don't have to look at their art, you can always walk away if you don't like it. In my case it would be Koons and his kitschy stuff I'd walk away from (or not pay money to see in an exhibition).

joesvejk - 29 Apr 2018 18:22:29 (#19 of 92)

I cant rememeber the name of the guy whose entire ouvre consisted of delicately arranged fluorescent tubes

thisonehasalittlehat - 29 Apr 2018 18:26:11 (#20 of 92)

Monet. Blurry twee fucker.
