Sort of both pleased and displeased to find a bit of daytime TV worth watching. The very first ep was yesterday and it looks like it's on every week day, BBC1.

It's called Home Is Where The Art Is.

It runs as follows.

  • There is a household with a declared budget to spend on art.

  • Three artists compete.

  • Artists get to wander around the house, though not meet the residents, to try and get an idea of their taste.

  • The artists pitch their idea to the residents and the residents also see some of the artist's former works. In today's ep one artist said he could create a work that was on budget (£1k) but also said he would like to do a larger one which would be more expensive.

  • The residents choose two artists of the three to proceed.

  • In today's ep those two artists had three weeks to create their work. I don't know if that's set in stone.

  • We get to see the artists at work. Today, one of the two at this stage works in bronze sculpture. It made me think "I bet she wouldn't normally be able to do this on budget but obviously this is a good showcase for her". She also said that she would normally take SIX weeks for the work she produced, not three.

  • The artists have Skype conversations with the residents about how it's going.

  • The two artists present their work to the residents. The artist whose work the residents choose get their fee. The other artist is recompensed only for their materials (but also gets advertising for their skills, of course).

  • The residents make their choice.

It's a really nice show. Why "displeased"? There's already enough to watch in the world. Another 45 minutes viewing to find most days... erk.

... to add... good to view on iPlayer since you can pause to peruse the art.

Well, today's show was really uncomfortable.

Mme Fandango watches this show. I catch most of some of the episodes. There is much worse telly.

It's interesting to see an irritating tit of an artist redeem themselves with a nice piece.
