IPL 2017

...

nac1001 - 06 May 2017 15:11:09 (#17 of 98)

Hyderabad needed 13 off the last over bowled by Unadkat of Pune Supergiant.

. W W W . . .

A Hat trick maiden.

Stokes also got 3 wickets and top scored with 39.

nac1001 - 07 May 2017 14:15:12 (#18 of 98)

Kolkata 59/0 in just 4 overs, chasing RCB's 158

nac1001 - 07 May 2017 14:19:13 (#19 of 98)

Narine is 50* off 15 balls

85/0 (5) -Kolkata have got 51 off the last two overs

nac1001 - 07 May 2017 14:35:13 (#20 of 98)

105/0 off 6 overs, then a wicket maiden!

spirali - 07 May 2017 14:46:09 (#21 of 98)

105/0 off 6 overs

Has that ever been bettered?

Bleu11 - 07 May 2017 21:00:33 (#22 of 98)

It is a new T20 record. CSK's 100-2 in 2014 was the previous record.

Another nailbiter in the IPL, where KXIP were bowled out for 73 (E Morgan run out 4). RPS are 16/0 off 2.3 overs. Perhaps the most interesting thing will be if KXIP, having opened with sharma and Sharma, bring Sharma on at first change.

Mumbai, after choosing to bat, just lost Pollard and are struggling at 5-66 after 12 overs. Chennai, I mean, Supergiant is being well captained by Smith. 17 Year old Washington Sundar has given away just 13 runs in 4 overs.

cozzer - 15 Apr 2018 15:21:13 (#25 of 98)

How come they aren't Royal Challengers Bengaluru?

spirali - 15 Apr 2018 15:47:18 (#26 of 98)

Brand familiarity/marketability?

cozzer - 15 Apr 2018 15:53:47 (#27 of 98)

And yet they are not the Madras Super Kings.

spirali - 15 Apr 2018 15:57:59 (#28 of 98)

True. Maybe Chennai is a more established name than Bengaluru? Or maybe the similarity in the old and new names makes it less of a big deal?

Thinking about it, whenever I've heard commentators talking about Tests/ODIs played there, they still always refer to it as Bangalore, never Bengaluru.

fogger - 15 Apr 2018 16:01:23 (#29 of 98)

They still call it Ayer's Rock.

nac1001 - 15 Apr 2018 16:26:18 (#30 of 98)

Name changes often take a long time to be accepted. I think Saigon is still popular in Vietnam for Ho Chi Minh City and I've met Indians in Mumbai who refer to their city as Bombay. The latter change was brought in by a far right Hindu nationalist party so was not universally popular although the word Mumbai isn't particularly associated with Hindus. It was always the Gujarati and Marathi word for Bombay - which may have derived from the Portuguese Bom Bahia?

With some of the changes people have claimed, not always with much evidence, that the new name is an old one. Some people wanted to change Delhi to Indraprastha (from the Mahabharata) although it is not the same place. Others wanted to change it to Shahjahanabad.

Hyderabad Sunrisers setting the pace this year. Played 3 Won 3.

KXIP are going to get 200 or thereabouts against CSK in the second match of the day. Gayle scored his standard 22-ball fifty earlier.

djsuggz - 15 Apr 2018 17:12:08 (#32 of 98)

Not quite, in the end.

CSK need 198 to win.

cozzer - 15 Apr 2018 17:13:47 (#33 of 98)

Gayle scored his standard 22-ball fifty earlier.

Which is different from his standard 5-ball 3.

djsuggz - 15 Apr 2018 17:30:41 (#34 of 98)

Yes. Those two things are different.

djsuggz - 15 Apr 2018 17:58:39 (#35 of 98)

CSK chasing. 53/2 off 6.

Need 10.5 per over.

djsuggz - 15 Apr 2018 18:14:18 (#36 of 98)

Billings gone. Dhoni in and looking keen.

117 needed off 66 balls.
