Cricket World Cup 2019

I just got the results from the ticket ballot, so it seemed like a good time to start this thread. Especially as the Tests have finished for the summer, we need something to talk about.

Anyway, are England favourites?

fogger - 13 Sep 2018 16:53:59 (#2 of 22)

Yes, they are favourites. But they won't win it. Cos they're England.

I'm interested to see if Morgan and Bayliss can keep the momentum going over the winter and into next year. Buttler presumably will be playing all three international formats, and Bairstow has been out of sorts in the Tests. Rashid and Mo are back in the Test side, too. I think I prefer it when our ODI team is clearly separate from the Test squad.

I'm in a queue to buy tickets. I'm guessing by the time I'm at the front of the queue, the only tickets available will be the most expensive bracket for RSA vs Bangladesh

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/apr/15/josh-hazlewood-misses-world-cup-selection-as-warner-and-smith-return

Josh Hazlewood not selected for the world cup so that he can concentrate on the Ashes.

lammaMia - 15 Apr 2019 14:32:44 (#5 of 22)

India omits Pant. Rahul and Jadeja make the cut.

PANT'S DOWN

lammaMia - 15 Apr 2019 14:40:52 (#7 of 22)

Cummins, Starc and Richardson suit early English conditions. If one of them gets injured later, Hazlewood will come in match-ready instead of warming the benches. Is Coulter-Nile good enough to bat at 7?

This tournament is a mouth watering prospect, second only to the last season of Game of Thrones.

Anyway, are England favourites?

some say more than 7 teams can win it, cozzer!

cozzer - 15 Apr 2019 14:49:28 (#9 of 22)

Probably only 7 with a realistic chance.

lammaMia - 15 Apr 2019 15:16:21 (#10 of 22)

The build-up for this summer has been brewing for years. Will England win the World cup and the Ashes at home or only one or?

Woakes on Archer. Doesn't say anything really controversial, but follows on from Wood and Willey (the three Ws) in looking a bit narked that Joffers might get a call up.

fogger - 17 Apr 2019 11:07:05 (#12 of 22)

Archer not called up.

DesEsseintes - 17 Apr 2019 11:09:56 (#13 of 22)

I should think not after writing all those crap novels.

cozzer - 17 Apr 2019 11:10:18 (#14 of 22)

But he could still be in the final squad when it's announced.

Winner - 17 Apr 2019 11:21:06 (#15 of 22)

Will this be on Sky or BT?

YogiMeerfield - 17 Apr 2019 11:37:02 (#16 of 22)

Sky.

Winner - 17 Apr 2019 11:59:47 (#17 of 22)

Thanks.

lammaMia - 17 Apr 2019 16:12:52 (#18 of 22)

When was the last time English players were reluctant to include a world class player who could unsettle the established group?

fogger - 17 Apr 2019 19:18:36 (#19 of 22)

I dont remember all this 'unsettle the established group' stuff when they called up Sam Curran or Tom Curran or Jake Ball in the last couple of years.

DesEsseintes - 17 Apr 2019 19:20:10 (#20 of 22)

It's been going on since Harold Larwood at least though on and off.
