T20 world cup 2021

The hit and giggle gets serious.

Most matches have had something to offer so far. Babar Azam is quite a pleasing batsman to watch.

Scotland v Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Having to go through the prequalification taradiddle, Scotland already have won three matches in this tournament. Beat that, England.

Scotland v Afghanistan is actually happening right now. AFG made 190-4, Scotland are, to put it gently, struggling in response (they’re 53-8 as I type).

I have been telt duff information.

That's poor. We have beaten them before in various formats. And they've beaten us before.

Anyway most of the discussion on this tournament is happening in the Football folder. A deplorable state of affairs, but what can you do.

Five ducks

WI v SA starting shortly. For WI the only way is up after the 55ao against England.

This is almost a knockout match, given that they both lost their first games.

I don't really get this thing of Gayle batting at 3. If you're going to have him in this side then don't you want him to have the chance to bat as long as possible?

cozzer - 26 Oct 2021 11:55:36 (#9 of 24)

They must have read your post, and decided not to bat him at 3 after all.

spirali - 26 Oct 2021 11:58:16 (#10 of 24)

Yeah, I just saw that, he's just emerged at no.4. Weird tactics from WI - a tremendous rollicking innings from Lewis but Lendl Simmons is batting like it's a red ball game. Not sure you can afford an anchorman in T20. 89-2 off 13 is OK though, I suppose.

Joe Denly agrees with you

spirali - 26 Oct 2021 12:50:25 (#12 of 24)

WI innings never really got going after Lewis' initial blitz. 143-8, seems under par.

Scotland's tournament going from bad to worse.

spirali - 27 Oct 2021 22:27:06 (#14 of 24)

They've now lost to the two teams they might have had a chance of beating. Hard to see them putting one over on anyone now.

Hadn't noticed before today that the Sussex allrounder David Wiese is playing for Namibia. He's previously played ODIs and T20s for SA, so he's another player who has switched nationalities, if anyone fancies opening up that can of worms again...

LordofMisrule - 28 Oct 2021 07:50:29 (#15 of 24)

I’ve got no problem with players doing so, if it helps strengthen Associate cricket.

They* were saying on radio commentary yesterday: that there’s a difference between a player doing so purely for personal gain (the chance to play in a WC, as a shop window for franchises etc), and someone who contributes to building a more professional ethos for the Associate team, guiding the younger teammates, and even influencing the national structure for the coming generations - the right player in the right place can work wonders. Sounds like Wiese is potentially one of the latter.

* I think it was Simon Mann and John Blain.

LordofMisrule - 28 Oct 2021 07:52:25 (#16 of 24)

It’s also amusing to hear just how many ways commentators/summarisers can pronounce the surname Wiese in the course of one match...

spirali - 28 Oct 2021 09:25:42 (#17 of 24)

I'm guessing Veez-uh is the correct pronunciation?

The spirit of Norman Tebbit lives on:

Modi’s India… won’t be long before they’ll be arresting people for laughing at jokes about the PM.
