Wildfires in Europe four times more prevalent already this year and the season doesn't normally kick off until July.

Phone-in about what we in the UK think about the subject just started on 5 Live.

Go on; join in. You know you want to make your mark.

TommyDGNR8 - 12 Jun 2019 09:58:16 (#3 of 20)

Summary: Yeah, but, China.

uranrising - 12 Jun 2019 10:07:20 (#4 of 20)

Do what you can.

KizzyK - 12 Jun 2019 22:29:35 (#5 of 20)

I'm so tired of the 'what about China' bollocks I can't be bothered joining in with any conversations where that is likely. Its a waste of energy.

PostmodernToss - 12 Jun 2019 22:32:49 (#6 of 20)

If you say so.

The loft insulation industry in China - nothing else, just the production and installation of loft insulation in China - dumps more CO2 into the atmosphere annually than the entire UK.

So please, tell me how I could save the planet if only I’d stop using cardboard fucking coffee cups.

PostmodernToss - 12 Jun 2019 22:36:52 (#7 of 20)

The entire EU could go vegan and carbon-neutral, and ban plastic, tomorrow... it would delay point-of-no-return global warming by, ooooooh, about three quarters of an hour.

Deckchairs/Titanic.

Verdigris - 12 Jun 2019 22:52:34 (#8 of 20)

But the vast majority of their emissions are from making stuff that we consume but don't make any more.

So please, tell me how I could save the planet if only I’d stop using cardboard fucking coffee cups.

The problem is that "disposable" coffee cups are a cardboard/plastic composite. Difficult to recycle. Try making your own coffee rather than sucking on a on a Tommee-Tippee cup, you pathetic infant.

Do us all a favour and fuck-off and die, you complacent racist. Fewer people like you is what the world needs.

(yes I am pissed - in vino veritas)

PostmodernToss - 12 Jun 2019 23:00:58 (#9 of 20)

OoooooOOOOOOoooooooh!

KizzyK - 12 Jun 2019 23:30:01 (#10 of 20)

Either you see what the science is screaming at us and think fucking hell we ALL need to get systemic change in place as fast as possible now and save ourselves a lot of money and pain by getting clever pretty damn quickly about how we go carbon neutral or you sit there and whine 'what about China'.

Personally I prefer the future where the UK has jumped the gun on the race to produce super smart renewable energy based products thus making great business opportunities and trade deals (whilst also having cleaner air, a healthier population etc) than the one where we sit around sulking waiting for China to close down some of its power stations before we act and then stupidly find ourselves in the position of lagging behind and having to buy all our renewable gear from them.

ZimAgain - 13 Jun 2019 00:23:41 (#11 of 20)

<applause>

moto748 - 13 Jun 2019 00:39:15 (#12 of 20)

And it's wrong to suggest the Chinese don't care and are doing nothing. In fact, I see that one of the strongest arguments against the naysayers, if evil totalitarian bastards like the Chinese govt take it seriously, shouldn't we all?

CarlosFandango - 13 Jun 2019 01:08:18 (#13 of 20)

'The loft insulation industry in China - nothing else, just the production and installation of loft insulation in China - dumps more CO2 into the atmosphere annually than the entire UK'

That's remarkable, if so. Is it so?

Can you back it up?

ZimAgain - 13 Jun 2019 01:10:19 (#14 of 20)

It's the 45 minutes claim I'd like to see backed up, but it's so much easier to just go with the tragedy of the commons.

CarlosFandango - 13 Jun 2019 01:17:20 (#15 of 20)

Have you looked into LCA figures for building insulation, Tom?

Are you aware of such things? If not, why not?

Because absolutely fucking obviously you whining bellend a key purpose of building insulation is to reduce heating energy requirements. Over a service life of 30-100 years or so.

Fucking Telegraph-reading lightweight.

tasselhoff - 13 Jun 2019 08:05:32 (#16 of 20)

Quite. I wondered what Tom was blathering on about myself.

CarlosFandango - 13 Jun 2019 08:23:25 (#17 of 20)

I think his dad has probably skim-read something about illegal cfc-11 use in PU foam blowing and he's parroting.

Anchorman - 13 Jun 2019 12:30:42 (#18 of 20)

absolutely fucking obviously you whining bellend

:^)

CarlosFandango - 14 Jun 2019 10:45:39 (#19 of 20)

Greetings Anchs.

Hope you're well.

Anchorman - 14 Jun 2019 15:33:44 (#20 of 20)

Hi Carlos.

I'm pretty good barring a couple of health issues.

You well?
