(Aha -- thanks)

This is interesting - some of you may have already read about it, but I've only just heard about it:

Best bit of news for a long time! Thanks, Fleur.

XR in the news because of one of their members belittling the holocaust

He's completely right that climate change could easily be way more deadly, but he seems to have added some other comments that can only be seen as dismissive. There's also a qualitative moral difference between something that happens through intention vs inaction

Arjuna - 21 Nov 2019 07:41:39 (#7 of 72)

he seems a bit dim, why even bring up the holocaust?

FleurDuMal - 21 Nov 2019 07:46:07 (#8 of 72)

Oh, ffs! It only takes one random numpty like that, to undo weeks of good work!

InternationalVicar - 21 Nov 2019 07:55:10 (#9 of 72)

That's the founder there Fleur.

It's a similar concept to the one esteemed anthropologist Jared Diamond proposed.

Meanwhile, as Australia burns, the deputy prime minister Michael McCormack finds time to rage at climate protesters:

'Speaking to the protesters through reporters at the Rural Fire Service control centre in Sydney, he said: “Go and do something productive. Go donate your time to Meals on Wheels or something like that.'

He's a fuckwit. How obvious does he need it to be?

“Go and do something productive. Go donate your time to Meals on Wheels or something like that.'

What a pillock!

UK counter-terrorism police issue guidance document listing Extinction Rebellion as a terrorist organisation.

guigal - 10 Jan 2020 23:21:57 (#16 of 72)

How could they? What could be more benign than an 'intervention'?

Islamist extremists regard Western intervention in Muslim-majority countries as a ‘war with Islam’, creating a narrative of ‘them’and‘us’. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/prevent-duty-guidance/revised-prevent-duty-guidance-for-england-and-wales

InternationalVicar - 13 Jan 2020 15:28:59 (#17 of 72)

Priti Patel has decreed that while XR aren't actual terrorists they still need stopping via the Prevent program because, erm, they're a threat to public security that needs to be dealt with under anti-terrorism actions ........., anyway she probably smirked while saying it, and wasn't even listening to herself, and doesn't care either way.

KizzyK - 07 Feb 2020 19:42:02 (#18 of 72)

Really shocked today. One of our most hardworking active UK rebels, young 25yr old guy called Iggy, died suddenly out of the blue. He was a proper inspiring bloke, scientist who gave up his career to become an activist, was one of the media go-to figures. Always up a tree, or in a lock on, seemingly taking part in every big action, always vlogging and pushing the mvt forward. He is a real big loss to us.

InternationalVicar - 07 Feb 2020 20:14:42 (#19 of 72)

Very sad, we're not long here really.

Verdigris - 07 Feb 2020 20:18:27 (#20 of 72)

died suddenly out of the blue

Could he have known he had a terminal condition and decided to do as much good as possible in the time he had remaining?

Sounds like a top bloke and a great loss to the planet.
