Are YOU celebrating YOUR child’s birthday appropriately?

In London these days, children’s parties are done differently. There are private fairgrounds, there are petting zoos, there are iPods in the party bags. Some are whispering that the whole notion of the children's birthday party has got out of control, that they have become yet another arena in which wildly competitive ultra-high-net-worth individuals might vaunt their largesse. Party planners have found themselves working with budgets for under-10s of up to £150,000.

Not in my bit of London they aren't. Wall to wall church halls and soft play parties here.

iPods? Is this 2008?

Well my son's parties weren't like that. We did do go-karting for his birthday one year and that was pricey enough!

Over £300 for 6 kids.

Vintage, innit.

Maybe what these Tatler kiddy parties need is a visit by KING HEROD.

Or napalm.
