Love Actually - too cynical and Twee British.

Lord of the Rings (Trilogy) - pixies, for feck’s sake.

Dirty Dancing - low effort chick flick.

dreams99 - 31 Dec 2020 12:54:54 (#2 of 184)

How would you know if you've never seen them?

Dementor - 31 Dec 2020 12:57:29 (#3 of 184)

Half-arsed prejudiced explanations welcome.

darkhorse - 31 Dec 2020 12:59:18 (#4 of 184)

JTT, and indeed life, would lose a bit of colour if we weren't allowed to slag off films and TV we've never seen, books we've never read, authors we actually have no experience of, music we've never listened to....

levelgaze - 31 Dec 2020 13:02:35 (#5 of 184)

It's a Wonderful Life. No matter how often I'm told it's a great and meaningful film, I can't get past the tweeness and cheese of the posters etc.

phantlers - 31 Dec 2020 13:04:07 (#6 of 184)

Star Wars, for most of the reasons offered above.

cozzer - 31 Dec 2020 13:04:33 (#7 of 184)

Ignore anyone who tells you it's twee and uplifting, it's very dark and crushingly heartbreaking.

It's a Wonderful Life!, that is. Star Wars is just shit.

levelgaze - 31 Dec 2020 13:06:57 (#9 of 184)

So why do they look all uplifted and cheesy in every picture of the thing?

dmlc133 - 31 Dec 2020 13:07:35 (#10 of 184)

I too have never seen It's A Wonderful Life!, for no particular reason.

TheExcession - 31 Dec 2020 13:07:46 (#11 of 184)

I've never seen a Rocky film for some reason, probably because I have zero interest in boxing. I never saw Titanic either because it sounded shit and slightly exploitative.

lammaMia - 31 Dec 2020 13:08:53 (#12 of 184)

Gone with the wind

Schindler's list

Titanic

darkhorse - 31 Dec 2020 13:09:30 (#13 of 184)

I was quite impressed by the stylised boxing sequences in that new Rocky follow up.

Saw a bit of the original recently, there is a typical 70s somewhat s*x pest "seduction" of the love interest by Stallone's character.

Shadrack22 - 31 Dec 2020 13:10:47 (#14 of 184)

The Godfather

Raging Bull

Goodfellas

Mean Streets

The Conversation

Fight Club

The Truman Show

No Country for Old Men

Fargo

The Railway Children

Black Narcissus

Oldboy

City of God

Batman/Spiderman etc

Explain yourself!

AlanII - 31 Dec 2020 13:14:55 (#16 of 184)

There are some extremely good movies in that list, Shadders.

Dementor - 31 Dec 2020 13:17:24 (#17 of 184)

I keep trying to watch The Conversation but just can’t get past the first half hour, somehow. It’s one of the greats, but ... ?

lammaMia - 31 Dec 2020 13:18:02 (#18 of 184)

Battle of Algiers

levelgaze - 31 Dec 2020 13:20:08 (#19 of 184)

I watched Battle of Algiers a couple of weeks ago, having put it off many times. Worth it.

Tinymcsmithy - 31 Dec 2020 13:23:56 (#20 of 184)

Sound of music - because all musicals are shit

ET - plastic fucking alien and annoying child

Anything with Adam Sandler in it - because he’s a cunt
