The Barn Cinema (no. 25 - in Dartington, not Totnes as listed) is near me and I often used to go there in before times. Good programming. But the best one isn't listed: Totnes Cinema https://totnescinema.co.uk/web/index.html is the best cinema I've ever been to. The seating is on dining chairs round small tables with LED candles, plus comfy leather sofas and armchairs, giving it the ambience of a 1970s jazz club. There's a bar at the front that closes when screening starts. The screen is huge. They never show any dross and it's run by a bunch of friendly cinephiles. A great place.

There are a few there I quite fancy visiting. Spent a lot of my student days in the GFT which is the only one on the list I've actually been to.

My personal favourite was St Andrews which still had stalls and a circle the last time I visited in the late 90s.

My favourite isn't on the list, The Kinema in the Woods at Woodhall Spa, only full size cinema in the UK to use back projection and a proper old style organ. Used to go their loads when I was at RAF Coningsby.

I'm surprised that neither The Tyneside Cinema, nor The Jam Jar got a mention.

Nothing for the Electric in Birmingham - the oldest working cinema in the country.

Surprised that Hebden Bridge Picturehouse isn't on there just because Hebden barges its way on to every other arty list these days.

Shadrack22 - 28 Jul 2021 11:45:45 (#7 of 11)

Yes I was surprised the Tyneside wasn’t on the list.

Ah, The Cube! That takes me back! No mention for the Watershed, though.

Cavewoman - 28 Jul 2021 13:20:04 (#9 of 11)

Yes, I was surprised the Watershed wasn't mentioned. I too have fond memories of the Cube.

DesEsseintes - 28 Jul 2021 14:39:36 (#10 of 11)

No Penistone Paramount either. It's bollocks, that list.

Tenesmus - 28 Jul 2021 14:14:25 (#11 of 11)

Surprised to see The Savoy Penzance, but pleased. Not pleased to see no Newlyn Picture House, so that list can sod off.
