Notable Films You've Never Actually Seen, But You've You've Decided Are Overrated

So, I've never seen Lost In Translation but I always assumed it was a load of old toot.

What movies do you have an (ir)rational prejudice against, despite never actually seeing them?

Any Bond. I've seen bits, and probably all of Goldfinger on aggregate. But they're preposterous nonsense. And they never acknowledge the fact that the real MI6 head of anti Russian shenanigans in the 50s was KGB colonel Kim Philby. Why does Bond never drop off microfilm to a man called Dmitry?

Damn just noticed you've you've.

Oldbathrobe1 - 24 Sep 2021 19:45:05 (#3 of 148)

I have indeed have.

Delighted_User - 24 Sep 2021 19:45:51 (#4 of 148)

I've too. Or at least would.

Oldbathrobe1 - 24 Sep 2021 19:47:12 (#5 of 148)

I would have had if I'd known you needed me to have.

popstar7 - 24 Sep 2021 20:02:43 (#6 of 148)

I've kind of settled on the idea that all films that win Best Film Oscars are lousy and overrated, or have been for the last twenty years anyway.

darkhorse - 24 Sep 2021 20:03:33 (#7 of 148)

Ok, but play the the game, popstar.

What's the worst one you haven't seen?

popstar7 - 24 Sep 2021 20:05:18 (#8 of 148)

Maybe the one about the woman who falls in love with a manfish. Or fishman.

lapsedcat - 24 Sep 2021 21:38:21 (#9 of 148)

Any Marvel films. Quacking nonsense all.

redginger - 24 Sep 2021 21:40:22 (#10 of 148)

Any JamesBond film after Roger Moore.

Tadagee - 24 Sep 2021 21:55:20 (#11 of 148)

After seeing one, every other Wes Anderson film.

TommyDGNR8 - 24 Sep 2021 22:00:20 (#12 of 148)

Until about three years ago, it would have been ET, but junior made me sit through it and just confirmed my suspicions.

It has therefore been replaced by The Shawshank Redemption.

I persist in thinking Forrest Gump is a pile of poo, despite some posters of this parish recommending it.

LobsangRampa - 24 Sep 2021 22:29:59 (#14 of 148)

Any Mike Leigh film.

Shadrack22 - 24 Sep 2021 22:31:45 (#15 of 148)

The Godfather trilogy. Suppose I will get round to it eventually, but am in no hurry. Don’t fancy all that self-mythologising macho Italian American stuff. The suffocating ties that bind, loads of claustrophobia, Roman Catholic guilt and even the man on the street corner who sells the evening newspapers is your second cousin twice removed or has relatives in the same village in Calabria as your folks.

widenation - 25 Sep 2021 04:08:20 (#16 of 148)

Hitchcock films. Love the Saul Bass titles, but have often not got much further than that.

Tinymcsmithy - 25 Sep 2021 04:56:31 (#17 of 148)

I’ve seen The Birds and maybe another Hitchcock film.

I can categorically state that all his films are boring annoying shit.

Tinymcsmithy - 25 Sep 2021 04:57:22 (#18 of 148)

Ah, just noticed Wide’s post.

I thought I was alone.

widenation - 25 Sep 2021 05:08:01 (#19 of 148)

Well I mentioned Hitchcock as I have a film boxset (xmas present c2010) and have never got round to even opening it - and probably never will.

Tinymcsmithy - 25 Sep 2021 07:19:31 (#20 of 148)

Why would you? Hitchcock films are shit.
