Scenes in films (and TV) that were just WTF

I thought that it might be interesting to gather together some of people's favourite groundbreaking, genre-challenging, plot-changing twists,… all time best scenes/moments in films and TV.

Things that just turned the whole thing on its head (feel free to interpret/adapt what this means as desired).

Obviously, this is going to be full of spoilers. We have the spoiler tag, but things can still slip out in discussion.

Perhaps, we could also post in bold the title of the film in the first line of each post, before the spoiler? For example:

The alien goes home.

The Crying Game

When Dil is revealed to be a bloke.

I can never remember if I knew beforehand that there was a twist of some sort, but either way I thought it was brilliantly done and raised an already good film into something truly amazing.

The Walking Dead

This was when it was still a good programme. When Sophie walks out of the shed as a walker. Heartbreaking and shocking.

Manon des Sources

That scene at the church with the old biddy on the bench

Taste of cherry

As the protagonist lies down to die, a long tracking shot reveals the filmmakers shooting the scene we just saw.

The end of No Country For Old Men where after the villain chases the main character for the ENTIRE FILM, they apparently couldn't be arsed to film the bit where he catches up with him.

He didn't. Some Mexican narcothugs killed Llewellyn Moss. It's the genius of the film that there are the two strands of American crime represented, murder for money and also a serial killer who murders for 'philosophical' reasons. And that so little is resolved in the end.

Bad Grandpa

The Cherry Pie pageant scene just about tops the fart contest in a diner for belly laughs.

But the scene where the crap Dad gets an intervention...
