Obsessive food thoughts, of a mid-morning

I am currently thinking obsessively about chicken caccitore, and drooling over food porn like this:

Pondering a visit to an Italian restaurant to satisfy this urge: a ridiculous plan, given time (and money) constraints this afternoon

Note to self: should have had a larger breakfast.

I'm going to a business lunch today that is catered. I've been obsessing about it all week.

Canopes and tasty snacks are the order of the day!

Went to the shop a couple of doors up - run out of pasties! Have to drive to town to get one now - and they're more expensive there.

should have reserved one earlier

Canopies, ffs.

I have never ever found a decent Italian restaurant. Always tastes either super-bland or like a ready meal. Zizzi pizzas are decent but I'll have to get MrInnogen to have a bash at this cacciatore business.

They are indeed few and far between. There is one quite good one in Cirencester, and a couple in Oxford.

Not that I've been giving it any thought...

MrInnogen to have a bash at this cacciatore business.

Tell him to include anchovies, mushrooms, bay leaves and a few chunks of chorizo; and to marinade the chicken in red wine for at least 12 hours beforehand

There's a new Italian restaurant here of which I had high hopes, given the paucity of eating choices. But it's terrible. Super-bland indeed.

Is it a bit like 70s favourite chicken chasseur?

Is it a bit like 70s favourite chicken chasseur?

yes, but redder and more italian

Lo Spuntino in York is good, and Pinocchio's in Brighton is all right but not show stopping.

Round the corner from me. Lush. They teach you, too.

Cavey, is the Veccia Roma still in NA?

For ‘fusion’ food in the Italian style I think Sotto Sotto in Bath is very good. It’s not for the claustrophobic diner though.

I've bought a chicken and bacon club sandwich from M&S this morning. Trouble is, I've got it into my head that it's a ham, cheese and pickle sandwich, so every bite I take is like that sip of tea when you think you're drinking coffee.

Cavewoman - 20 Jul 2016 16:48:41 (#16 of 46)

stumpy, it's no longer alive but I've googled it and it was very close to my road. Damn.

FleurDuMal - 20 Jul 2016 17:09:04 (#17 of 46)

If you're ever in Harrogate, Luigi's is the biz!

nolongerstumpy - 21 Jul 2016 04:03:36 (#18 of 46)

Damn indeed.

It wasn't at all bad, and made a change from the Raj Doot when I was passing through.

Thinking about the curry I be eating in about 7 hours time.

A pile of golden popadums (at least 8 for the three of us, possibly 9 or 10). A tall pint of cold kingfisher beer by my side. I will unfold the white napkin and tuck into the top of my jumper, an essential part of the culinary experience

The main course (chicken madras) will arrive on a wheeled trolley, served in an elegantly carved metallic bowl. This on one of those heated alluminium surfaces. I will spoon the chunks of meat and madras sauce out onto the pile of golden pilau rice. I may dip a corner of peshwari nan directly into bowl.

The theme today is digestifs

I'm thinking (obsessively) of fried steak with a creamy peppery sauce, rocket salad and thin chips

Followed by a brandy and a cigar

Alternatively, smoked bavarian cheese on fresh crusty white bread, with a glass of cold super-carbonated mineral water

Earlier on, I kept recalling the smell of French hot chocolate. I think that's what started all this.
