Storecupboard essentials

What's in your larder?

WibbleAgain - 10 Sep 2020 12:45:47 (#1 of 110)

Why do you want to know?

It's a huge list. I mean, I have seasoning and condiments for various cuisines that I can (attempt to) cook. They're not essential for survival though it's hard to separate the two. I have 4 or 5 different soy sauces, and I suppose only 1 is essential. Ditto oils.

Rice, flour, yeast, rice noodles, tofu, miso soup, tinned tomatoes, stock of many varieties, bulgur wheat, risotto rice, pasta, lentils, curry pastes, cornflour, tomato purée, herbs and spices, vinegars, oils, salt, various baking things, Asian soup packets. I think that’s about everything.

No biscuits?

Stellata - 10 Sep 2020 12:54:19 (#4 of 110)

I have one (1) biscuit.

Ah. So groups of things rather than an exhaustive list.

One of the things that I stockpiled for Brexit was baked beans. In the early days of lockdown and lack of supermarket delivery slots, I was eating my stockpile, but I found I never ate the baked beans, so I gave most of it away. Now I'm restocking, I decided to get some baked beans in, since I may actually starve with Brexit because it's a much longer term thing.

Why do you want to know?

I'm bored and have a headache and started thinking about the huge number of things in my cupboards, and wondered how I compared to others.

I'm being nosy.

Be as specific or general as you like. Include fridge / freezer or not, as you prefer.

I have 3 sorts of soy sauce. Light, dark and Kikkoman.

Two tubs of Birds custard powder. Actually three, but only one is unopened, and is in the pantry, not the kitchen cupboard.

I'm in bed and would have to go downstairs to make an exhaustive list...

Rice: White basmati, brown basmati, Camargue Red, Thai black, pudding rice, sushi rice, Arborio.

Yersinia - 10 Sep 2020 13:01:28 (#10 of 110)

Ambrosia custard and rice pudding, both in 4-packs of 125ml. For MM, not me.

WibbleAgain - 10 Sep 2020 13:02:08 (#11 of 110)

What about pickles? I really like the Peppadew piquante chillies, which are sort of "essential" in my cupboard. Cappers, anchovies, olives, absolutely essential.

Tomnoddy - 10 Sep 2020 13:02:23 (#12 of 110)

Pudding, white basmati, Arborio and unspecified risotto rice, and bulgur wheat, which is a great substitute for basmati.

Oxo cubes

Tomnoddy - 10 Sep 2020 13:05:03 (#14 of 110)

Two jars of Branston pickle, dated Best Before 2017 and 2018. One jar of homemade pickle (residues) dated 2018. Pataks sweet Mango and hot lime. Waitrose spicy mango.

Noodles / pasta:

Egg noodles, fine wholewheat noodles, tagliatelle, linguine, lasagne sheets, macaroni.

WibbleAgain - 10 Sep 2020 13:07:06 (#17 of 110)

I try not to eat wheat, so it's rice cakes and oatcakes for me. Plain and dark chocolate rice cake, plain and cheese oatcakes.

Very dark chocolates are absolutely essential for me. In fact, I've just bought a kilo of 100% dark chocolate buttons. Some nuts for snacking, and some for cooking, mainly cashews and pinenuts. Sesame seeds, black and white. Tahinis: black and white. Hemp and flex seeds, preferred hulled. Rolled oats, Hamsa apricots, crystalised ginger. All these are my staples - the latter ones for breakfast porridge.

Very low number or decaf coffee. Herbal and Yorkshire teas.

Investigating the top shelf, I have discovered MadameB's stash of chocolate.
