We are stuck in a little rut of just salmon or prawns or barramundi, grilled. Or salmon teriyaki or salmon Cajun.

ReverendBlueJeans - 23 Apr 2021 14:52:56 (#2 of 121)

Fish/scampi supper from the chippie - OK

Salmon/smoked salmon - OK

All other seafood - bleurgh

Shadrack22 - 23 Apr 2021 14:54:05 (#3 of 121)

Old joke:

I’m on the sea food diet.

I see food and eat it.

ReverendBlueJeans - 23 Apr 2021 14:55:59 (#4 of 121)

Genuinely, does samphire count as seafood?

Zymurgy1 - 23 Apr 2021 14:59:15 (#5 of 121)

Does a plant count as seafood?

ReverendBlueJeans - 23 Apr 2021 15:00:54 (#6 of 121)

Well, that's the nub of my question, I suppose.

helenskywalker - 23 Apr 2021 15:02:17 (#7 of 121)

Sea vegetable, I believe.

Gotout - 23 Apr 2021 15:03:22 (#8 of 121)

Aldi's extra large cod fillets with Lidl French fries tonight.

ReverendBlueJeans - 23 Apr 2021 15:03:34 (#9 of 121)

There are various edible seaweeds as well.

helenskywalker - 23 Apr 2021 15:04:35 (#10 of 121)

Anyway, my latest seafood forays have been dark red octopus paella (made with pre-braised octopus from Brindisi) and clams steamed with garlic, onion, white wine and parsley, with bread.

Zymurgy1 - 23 Apr 2021 15:06:37 (#11 of 121)

Now we are talking, that sounds great helenskywalker

Snarlygog - 23 Apr 2021 15:29:16 (#12 of 121)

I've been making a seafood Chanko Nabe recently .Bag of mixed seafood ( squid,Mussels,Prawns ) in Chicken stock + a slab of Oyster meat .Add a finger of rough chopped Ginger ,5 red onions and a Bag of Sainsbury's Mixed peppers stir fry + 3 baby leeks and a fat handful of shredded Coriander.Season with chilli flakes ,ground cinnamon( works well with shell fish ) ,smokey paprika .Add a tsp of Oyster sauce and Dark soy and simmer for an hour. It gets better and better flavour on subsequent days.

CarlosFandango - 23 Apr 2021 15:34:26 (#13 of 121)

Scottish mussels last night.

A kilo was just about enough for me and Fandanglet 2.

Kitchen is largely out of action so he went to the chippie for single portion* of chips while I ad-hoc marinièred the moules on the temporary single-ring induction hob. Mussels didn't go in until I heard him back at the door, of course.

*Their portions are ridiculously huge.

helenskywalker - 23 Apr 2021 15:39:47 (#14 of 121)

I love mussels and chips.

Zymurgy1 - 23 Apr 2021 15:40:09 (#15 of 121)

Hey snarly, out of curiosity, why chicken stock in a seafood dish?

Snarlygog - 23 Apr 2021 15:51:09 (#16 of 121)

Its traditional for Sumo stew - Chicken stock =two legs aka standing up on the Dojo, beef stock = four legs aka defeated.

Zymurgy1 - 23 Apr 2021 16:05:34 (#17 of 121)

My wife is pescatarian ... so I reckon I could switch out the chicken stock for fish sauce?

Snarlygog - 23 Apr 2021 16:15:18 (#18 of 121)

yes or a premade Onion gravy works just as well.

Tagyourit - 23 Apr 2021 16:15:49 (#19 of 121)

Shellfish is lovely, fish is fucking rank.

Snarlygog - 23 Apr 2021 16:24:11 (#20 of 121)

Thank you for your input.
