Do you have any go to dishes to share?

When you can't think what to make and you want to do something a) simple b) that everyone loves.

For me chicken piccata or pesto.

Salmon with green beans olives and tomatoes- ‘proper’ recipe low but I don’t bother with the things in square brackets

200g green beans topped and tailed

20 small cherry tomatoes

1 handful of pitted black olives

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

salt and pepper

4 salmon fillets

[1 lemon]

[1 handful of fresh basil, optional]

6 anchovy fillets sliced lengthways into 2 or 3

Serves 4 Boil the green beans for 5 mins, drain and put in a large bowl with the tomatoes and stoned olives. Toss in the olive oil and pinch of salt and pepper Squeeze juice of half a lemon over the salmon fillets on both sides then season both sides and drizzle with olive oil. Put the fillets of salmon at one end of a baking tray. Toss the basil into the green beans, olives and tomatoes and place this mixture at the other end of the tray. Lay the anchovies over the green beans and roast in a preheated oven - highest setting for ten minutes.

I do lots of versions of roasted flavoured new potatoes with a couple of oily fish fillets placed on top for the last 20 mins.

Potatoes roasred with bay, lemon, garlic and onion with mackerel fillet placed on top is easy and very good.

#11 Latest discovery is amchoor powder on roasted new potatoes. Excitingly limey and spicy.

AppleCatcher - 08 Aug 2021 15:32:36 (#13 of 111)

That Jamie Oliver curried roast chicken with gravy and Bombay roasties.

tasselhoff - 08 Aug 2021 16:33:19 (#14 of 111)

Spag bol.

I shall give that amchoor trick a try. If anything it’ll be a good way of getting rid of my millennia old amchoor.

Ginmonkey - 08 Aug 2021 16:52:22 (#16 of 111)

It does sound great. I have 0 amchoor powder though. A trip to Khan's may be in order. I need another massive sack of rice in any case.

Fish pie is always popular in our house -- many variations on the theme.

When I’m feeling lazy nothing beats a fish finger sandwich on soft white bread. Sometimes ketchup, sometimes brown sauce.

Tadagee - 08 Aug 2021 18:15:07 (#21 of 111)

Absolutely, although I think you'll find it's tartare sauce that you need.

yumyum - 08 Aug 2021 18:16:17 (#22 of 111)

Yes, I must try that next time - tomorrow.

Macpaddy - 08 Aug 2021 18:20:07 (#23 of 111)

NOTHING fills that corner of your stomach like yumyums fish finger sandwhich. Sometimes I use mayonaisse instead of tomato or brown sauce. Tartare sauce sounds well worth trying.

I Ilike the battered fish finger for my sandwhich.

The steamed new potato salad is a good summertime go to. When the spuds are cold add chopped onion, peppers, celery, hard boiled egg, olives, tinned tuna, chopped apple, peanuts, a LOT of mayonnaise, seasoning and whatever else comes to hand. A good side dish, snacks or main.

Fish finger sandwich with garlic mayo.

Bacon butty. Grill the bacon and place the rashes on a slice of buttered bread, sprinkle grated cheese on the bacon and pop it back under the grill for a couple of minutes.

tasselhoff - 08 Aug 2021 19:26:47 (#27 of 111)

It ain't a bacon butty without brown sauce.

TommyDGNR8 - 08 Aug 2021 19:30:58 (#28 of 111)

Battered fish fingers, garlic mayo, tartare sauce...

See, you're getting dangerously close to posh crisp territory, here. Taking a basic classic and improving it until it's shit.

Tadagee - 08 Aug 2021 19:36:15 (#29 of 111)

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a fish finger in possession of white bread, must be in want of tartare sauce.
