I am supporting the Mets. Any Yankees fans here? Eh? Eh? Show yourselves.

Moschops - 16 Mar 2012 20:02:01 (#3 of 1600)

I also support the Mets (by support, I occasionally look at the tables and swear at the Braves)

fogger - 16 Mar 2012 20:07:46 (#4 of 1600)

Yay! We can form a clique.

Of course, the Mets are a bit fucked.

I had a quick look at the official site to decide who to support, an find they have a 'Grapefruit league' and a 'Cactus league'. This is just crazy, even by American standards. Anyway, I shall be 'rooting' for the Brewers, for obvious reasons.

The Brewers just traded Prince Fielder, who is awesome, and fat, and awesome, to Detroit. He's on a $216m 9-year contract. Lucky fat sod.

I've always followed the Cards, although how they'll do post-Albert is a worry.

fogger - 16 Mar 2012 20:43:53 (#8 of 1600)

The Cards comeback in the World Series was one of the best things I've seen in sport. Surprised they didn't do more to try and keep wee Albert.

Baseball is the only sport in which I support the big, horrible team everyone hates. Come on the Yanks!

fogger - 16 Mar 2012 20:52:16 (#10 of 1600)

I suppose as a Liverpool fan I should support the Red Sox. But it's too late now. I have a Mets hat.

The Cards comeback in the World Series was one of the best things I've seen in sport.

I was on dayshift for game 6 - The Cards were 7-5 down in the bottom of the ninth and one out away from losing the series. In the time it took to turn the TV off, get in the car and put Sports Extra on Friese had hit the triple that tied it up. Drove to work and arrived there at the top of the eleventh - after having the job handed over turned the radio on just in time to hear the walk-off homer that won it.

The game is $1.99 on iTunes. But now I've spoiled the ending...

My personal favourite is the 2001 World Series with the Diamondbacks beating the Yankees in Game 7. Heart-stopping from Game 3 onwards

fogger - 16 Mar 2012 21:15:21 (#13 of 1600)

So your personal favourite is when the team you support lost? Cool.

misosoup100 - 16 Mar 2012 21:18:22 (#14 of 1600)

Baseball must seem fast-paced to you cricket fans.

fogger - 16 Mar 2012 21:21:40 (#15 of 1600)

They're quite similar in my point of view. Lots of stats, tactics, individual performances forming a team effort, curious terminology, I'd be useless at playing either of them...

bigdave82 - 16 Mar 2012 21:25:50 (#16 of 1600)

Aye, I would love to see a 6-hour 250-pitch at bat

So your personal favourite is when the team you support lost? Cool.

Yep, aren't I just the most fair-minded guy here

Moschops - 16 Mar 2012 21:34:36 (#17 of 1600)

Baseball is probably the best of the American big 4 sports, but it's way behind Test cricket.

bigdave82 - 16 Mar 2012 22:13:48 (#18 of 1600)

Nothing beats Test cricket for all-round sport

fogger - 16 Mar 2012 22:23:10 (#19 of 1600)

Well yeah, but are you watching the SA v NZ match? It's a bit turgid.

bigdave82 - 16 Mar 2012 22:33:13 (#20 of 1600)

Heh no I must say
