The Jordan B. Peterson Compendium

We (well, mainly miso, who's clearly ob-sessed) keep putting JBP stuff here and there, mainly in Trumpocalypse, because his agenda seems to resonate in a Trumpian sort of way, and it doesn't look like the reigning intellectual colossus of our age is going anywhere soon, so, I thought the least we could do is give the great man his own thread.

And here's a good piece from Medium to kick us off:

And I'll post up anything I have bookmarked as well, just so it's here. Maybe miso might do the same.

I fucking hate Jordan Peterson. As my son says, he's a stupid person's idea of a clever person.

That is all I have to contribute at the moment, so soz.

davedanon - 03 Sep 2018 10:47:54 (#4 of 299)

There's a guy in my (running) club who likes him. Clever chap, under 30, but seemingly well-adjusted AND with a fiancé. I'm waiting my chance to buttonhole him and discover exactly what the attraction is. I'm guessing he's sat through a few of his youtube lectures, although he implies he's read some of his work.

I dunno, I think it's pretty clear why he's popular. Even privileged white men are susceptible to comforting myths about how the world is conspiring against them and that's why they're not as successful as they think they should be, especially in America where success or otherwise has always been cast as a manifestation of personal virtue.

Or, as was quoted in the link in #1

#6 oh, is that what the goosing thread is about? Well, there you go.

davedanon - 03 Sep 2018 11:38:37 (#11 of 299)

We're allowed two threads.

Especially when one of them is in fucking UK News.

returnofthepowermonkey - 03 Sep 2018 11:54:09 (#12 of 299)

I imagine his footballing is far more impressive than his politics.

SteveFrench - 03 Sep 2018 17:53:15 (#13 of 299)

Now I have to find out who he is

Peacock - 03 Sep 2018 17:56:15 (#14 of 299)

fwiw, At boarding school ‘to be goosed’ was nudge nudge wink wink for ‘ to be buggered’

Tadagee - 03 Sep 2018 19:59:38 (#16 of 299)

Did you learn that from 'Goodbye Mr. Chips'?

davedanon - 03 Sep 2018 20:17:41 (#17 of 299)

No, the follow-up, Goodbye Mr. Soggy Biscuit.

misosoup100 - 03 Sep 2018 20:35:39 (#18 of 299)

I know him a bit, and, while he covers it up with tweedy professor attire and a middle of the road Canadian accent, he's crazy as a loon.

ACADEMIC FEUD!!!

I love a good literary feud, me.

The Left will always struggle with someone so obviously noble and clever attacking their shibboleths which is why they seek to dismiss him as an 'alt right' crank. They know that engaging with his arguments directly would lead to cognitive dissonance of the meltdown variety.
