This season we have:

all taking part. As we’re now an 8 team league, playoffs will be easier to manage, and will be in weeks 15 and 16, with 4 contesting the championship bracket, and 4 vying to avoid the wooden spoon. I think we can do away with divisions too, as we’ll all play each other twice.

Leon had raised the question about awarding receivers a point for every reception - I’m open to changing the scoring to allow this. I can set it to be a point, or 0.5 or anything else we fancy - any thoughts?

kiwizoidberg - 14 Aug 2019 23:47:58 (#2 of 2554)

Would have made owning Larry Fitzgerald much more rewarding for the last couple of seasons!

I'm easy either way. Will it also mean extra points per rushing attempt by RBs, or just be restricted to points per catch?

MaybeLeon - 14 Aug 2019 23:48:08 (#3 of 2554)

Wasn't advocating for it, btw, just asking for clarification on the scoring, and strictly for ranking player priorities pre-draft. It was prompted by trying to best remember the scoring system in the last fantasy throwball I played (which was well over a decade ago). Pretty sure it awarded one point for every complete set of five catches or carries.

Not sure what the rationale for that was, but assume it was to give a slight boost to consistent producers/workhorses over flukes. Not sure how important it was, really, other than at times cheering for a twentieth carry or tenth reception late in a game, even if it was for zero gain.

One point per each reception distorts the scoring grossly, I reckon, both in terms of weighting pass-catchers much more heavily and devaluing TDs.

What's the argument given for choosing to use a PPR system?

What's the argument given for choosing to use a PPR system?

Reduces the relative value of running backs.

Other aspect you may not have been briefed on Leon: trash talking.

It gets pretty heated.

MaybeLeon - 15 Aug 2019 00:00:52 (#6 of 2554)

If I were to advocate for something that greatly increased enjoyment based on past experience, it would be for a change that I assume is highly impractical for this bunch: Auction instead of draft.

MaybeLeon - 15 Aug 2019 00:06:13 (#7 of 2554)

Ha. Thanks for the heads up, miso. Is that usually here or via the in-league chat?

MaybeLeon - 15 Aug 2019 00:13:13 (#8 of 2554)

For reference / trash talking purposes:

Rusty - ?

miso - The Johnny Manziels

kiwi - Run Like Faulk

spartak - MoscowBhoys

MontyP - Monty's Peculiars

Finn - ?

Vendor - ?

notLeon - Mike Vick in a Box

2 Gurleys 1 Kupp

Here's to you Allen Robinson

Near York Jets

kiwizoidberg - 15 Aug 2019 02:41:05 (#9 of 2554)

Vendor is the Jets fan.

I think Finn is Allen Robinson, Bears fan.

Rusty is Kupp by default then. He's the Commish, best not piss him off.

misosoup100 - 15 Aug 2019 03:20:32 (#10 of 2554)

2 Gurleys 1 Kupp

is brilliant.

As a name.

Not so much as a GM.

misosoup100 - 15 Aug 2019 03:23:51 (#11 of 2554)

Why your team sucks, Cleveland Browns:

This was best season the Browns have had in a dozen years. The standard for them is lower than the standard for Trump giving a speech after a hospital has exploded.

HerpDerp - 15 Aug 2019 05:38:37 (#12 of 2554)

I mostly don't understand those Why Your Team Sucks articles, but I do enjoy reading them.

Vendor - 15 Aug 2019 18:37:51 (#13 of 2554)

New Team Name Alert!

So, when are we drafting?

RustyAKALoveSquirrel - 15 Aug 2019 19:49:16 (#14 of 2554)

When suits everyone?

I can’t do 31st August, but pretty much any other time is fine.

misosoup100 - 15 Aug 2019 19:53:54 (#15 of 2554)

Drew Magary knows Nashville:

If you drive a pickup truck with 50 bumper stickers splayed across the back of tailgate, this is very much your kind of scene. If you are a normal human like me, this is not. Country music is a hate crime. Nashville is its nexus: just one generic honkytonk after another, each one trying to deafen passersby with the soundtrack to a fucking ICE raid. Next time I go to Tennessee, I’m going to Memphis. I’m not a fool.

MontyPeculiar - 15 Aug 2019 21:21:39 (#16 of 2554)

If I start off live drafting, will it revert to auto if I have to leave before it's done?

misosoup100 - 15 Aug 2019 21:31:46 (#17 of 2554)

Yes. You have 30s (I think) for each pick. After that it goes automatic.

I think you're going to win based on how far ahead you're planning this.

Either that or you'll come in last like people who picked Leveon Bell last season.

MontyPeculiar - 15 Aug 2019 21:46:35 (#18 of 2554)

Not me guv, I'll do my planning as the games start. If I remember. I'm happy to go live if I can, but if not then auto. The date is fairly irrelevant.

spartak - 16 Aug 2019 05:20:32 (#19 of 2554)

Auto for me please

RustyAKALoveSquirrel - 16 Aug 2019 07:50:27 (#20 of 2554)

For those who want to live draft - what time zones are we all in? Let’s try to come up with a time that’s not crazy for others.
