What are you TRULY afraid of?

Always been heights for me but increasingly enclosed spaces too, to the point where I don't even like a heavy duvet on top of me at night. Rats, spiders, poo etc - fine with all of those and all the other usual ones.

Any from you?

Get a down duvet. Problem solved.

Heights, but more specifically falling off them and injury and/or death resulting. I've managed to do "easy" routes up (and more importantly, down) mountains and paragliding off a mountain, and can go up tall buildings and look down, no problem, but get sudden vertigo on stairs and escalators at times, or just going down a steep hill, and it doesn't need to be that steep.

Am also not keen on the dark, not pitch black anyway.

Heights again (even those photos of American construction workers on 30s skyscrapers make my stomach flip a bit), and snakes. Not sure if the poisonous ones or the squeezy ones are worse. Probably the latter.

Heights too and it's only got worse with age.

dmlc133 - 15 Oct 2020 10:26:33 (#8 of 117)

Not too much of a problem with heights, but I do find constricted spaces, especially underground, a bit panic-inducing.

Edges. Not necessarily heights, but edges. And particularly tube platform edges!

In recent years it’s heights. I get nervous on the steep escalators in the metro.

Macpaddy - 15 Oct 2020 12:11:20 (#19 of 117)

Why do people say" I'm afraid of heights"? Surely, they aren't. What they are afraid of is falling.

I am fortunate I have no phobias whatsoever. I haven't conquered them, I have just never had any.

dreams99 - 15 Oct 2020 12:11:54 (#20 of 117)

What they are afraid of is falling.

No they're not. They're afraid of landing.
