Trumpocalypse XV: Old Man Yells At Cloud

You know the drill.

Boog23 - 07 May 2021 16:04:00 (#221 of 1853)

On that note

The rumors are true! After going dark for a year, Mueller, She Wrote (Vol 2) returns this Sunday with special guest Andrew McCabe as we break down the Judge Jackson ruling against Bill Barr.

Crayola - 07 May 2021 16:52:35 (#222 of 1853)

Was just listening to her Daily Beans and she mentioned she was bringing back MSW.

Garden - 07 May 2021 17:16:56 (#223 of 1853)

I've just started reading Andrew Weissmann's book on the Mueller Report. He starts out with his reaction to hearing about Barr's "summary" of it on the news. I remember that well - and wondering how Barr had read and digested the whole thing.

Is there going to be a Barr indictment I hope?

Tinymcsmithy - 07 May 2021 17:19:08 (#224 of 1853)

Not according to CNN legal bods.

Garden - 07 May 2021 17:31:19 (#225 of 1853)

That's too bad.

I wonder if Barr and Mueller ever talk. They were good friends pre-Trump.

Boog23 - 07 May 2021 17:44:23 (#226 of 1853)

Not according to CNN legal bods.

Was that before, or after, Judge Jackson accused Barr of lying to Congress?

Tinymcsmithy - 07 May 2021 17:45:35 (#227 of 1853)

MSNBC were trying to push the ‘Barr is in trouble’ line, but it seemed a bit scraping the barrel. I mean yes in theory perhaps, but is it gonna happen?

The cynical part of me says that Barr, Mueller and them all will get on just fine. But I doubt we’ll ever know.

Tinymcsmithy - 07 May 2021 17:45:53 (#228 of 1853)

After Boog.

Boog23 - 07 May 2021 17:50:25 (#229 of 1853)

After Boog

Ok, so what caveats were put around that? The CNN lawyers haven't seen the unredacted memo yet that Judge Jackson has ordered the DOJ to release.

Tinymcsmithy - 07 May 2021 17:58:53 (#230 of 1853)

They just felt that, realistically, it was highly unlikely even if there were something technical there.

IANAL. They are.

MSNBC always get overexcited/hyped about this kind of thing - see Mueller.

slimpickins - 08 May 2021 10:33:15 (#231 of 1853)

If the DOJ doesn't challenge the unredacted will be published and if they confirm the judges opinion, the DOJ will have to take action or justify not doing so and congress have the same choice. I don't think either body can just ignore it.

Keep hearing this gloomy prospect being raised in the last week -

If GOPs take the House next year what makes us think they'll agree to certify the election of a Dem president in 2024?

PaperRustler - 08 May 2021 17:49:26 (#233 of 1853)

It doesn't feel remotely as if the danger has passed, does it?

Garden - 08 May 2021 17:56:20 (#234 of 1853)

No, it doesn't.

BasilSeal - 08 May 2021 18:23:46 (#235 of 1853)

it's just on hold, while the GOP is still in thrall to extremists there's still a clear danger. The ball is in the democrat's court, but they have to play it well, and there aren't any chances left if they fuck this one up, i fear.

popstar7 - 08 May 2021 18:38:04 (#236 of 1853)

Someone was wishing an early death on Mitch McConnell on the Biden thread earlier in the week. Not very fond of him as I may be, McConnell said exactly what was needed and expected on January 6th about Biden winning the election and that it wasn't even close. What happens next time round?

TheFLUFFIESTKittenEvah - 08 May 2021 18:48:05 (#237 of 1853)

Yes, that was me. And I repeat my wish, because, regardless of his pious mutterings on January 6, the old bastard has done everything he possibly can to subvert democracy.

He vowed to prevent a second term for Obama, played fast and loose with the constitution in the matter of SC appointments, and facilitated some of trump's worst excesses. And now he's at it again.

I stand by my fervent hope he will fucking die soon.

popstar7 - 08 May 2021 18:52:30 (#238 of 1853)

the old bastard has done everything he possibly can to subvert democracy.

Clearly not.

BasilSeal - 08 May 2021 19:23:37 (#239 of 1853)

McConnel is a malign and cynical figure, the fact that he stopped just shy of actual treason and pivoted to condemn Trump, having ridden the Trump train right up to the last stop before insurrection, hardly makes him a valiant defender of democracy

At a time of national emergency, his main priority is to do whatever he can to obstruct the Biden administration and make it fail, because partisan politics is more important to him than the lives and livelihoods of american citizens.

He's a cunt, and while i wouldn't wish him dead i'll not shed many tears when his time comes. It's not like he's going to be replaced by anyone less cynical or obstructive when he goes though, and it's possible whoever takes his place won't draw the line at denying democracy.

popstar7 - 08 May 2021 19:30:59 (#240 of 1853)

and it's possible whoever takes his place won't draw the line at denying democracy.

My point, in a nutshell.
