Couple of questions from me:

1. Does anyone have one of those CD ripper units like a Brennan? Any good?

2. I have a £100 record deck which I need to up-grade - perhaps to about £300. Any suggestions?

2. I have a £100 record deck...

Audio Technica AT-LP5x - direct drive, automatic speed, phono stage can be switched off if your amp already has one, USB output if you insist on ripping your vinyl...

Pro-ject are my go-to turntable suppliers.

I have a Bluesound CD ripper/preamp/DAC/streamer. But I would ask what do you want to do with the music once you've ripped it - do you want a device that can then stream the FLAC/MP3 files to an amp? Or do you use your PC/Mac/whatever for that already?

I've got a Teac MC D800 which is i think no longer produced but its replacement should be in that range.

#3

My other recommendation would have been the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon.

Thanks all - will check all of those

Got some birthday money burning a hole on my pocket

But I would ask what do you want to do with the music once you've ripped it

Play it on random - I have a really good Marantz amp I can use and some mission speakers - was thinking about a little den on the loft

This is what I have, Clink. But it's not cheap.

Thing is, ripping CDs takes fucking ages, and I've just found it much simpler all round to have a Tidal account...

Not sure I can run to that one - looks great though

Is direct drive better than belt driven then? No slipping?

fogger - 08 Dec 2021 10:18:51 (#13 of 43)

Makes setting up easier. I'm not the right person to ask about turntables though.

dreams99 - 08 Dec 2021 10:19:52 (#14 of 43)

I rip CDs using my desktop. Probably not the best quality, but there's 800 or so CDs saved on my external HDD.

Looking for a watch for my daughter, probably an activity tracker type thing, but something appropriate for a 9 yo girl.

QuattroComeAllYeFaithful - 08 Dec 2021 11:38:17 (#16 of 43)

Might you not be better off buying a decent streaming device and taking a high definition subscription to Spotify/Tidal or whatever?

dreams99 - 08 Dec 2021 11:43:38 (#17 of 43)

And contributing to the decline of the music industry? Sure, why not. Nobody likes music anyway.

This is a weird argument, as the music industry is doing fine. Just like the fact that millions of people streaming TV shows from Netflix rather than buying the DVD hasn't killed the TV industry.

dreams99 - 08 Dec 2021 11:58:14 (#19 of 43)

Not just like it at all. Netflix pays healthily for shows, and makes plenty themselves. Spotify pays fuck all to acts, and music revenues are a third of what they were in 1998, so I don't know from what perspective you think the music industry is 'doing fine'.

FeudalClink - 08 Dec 2021 12:16:04 (#20 of 43)

I have about 500 CDs I want to go through
