Praise the Lord!

I thought it more apposite than the average Thought For The Day, albeit with a longer time-slot.

... and pass the ammunition!

But seriously, this philosophy's been around for nearly 2000 years. How much nearer are we to living up to it?

Or, to put it another way, how much further away are we?

I didn't hear the sermon, and have no intention of subjecting myself to it, but as the transcript is online, I had a glance to see whether it was the hippy-dippy hypocritical shit that seems to be able to melt the heart of the staunchest republican atheist. And lo, it was so.

Actually it wasn't. But I doubt you'd benefit from an actual reading of it or listening to it.

Delighted_User - 20 May 2018 03:49:30 (#7 of 73)

I take it you're not one of these love-your-neighbour types yourself, then? Funny, that.

I don't really care whether the parasites say they're going to feed the poor or they're going to rip the heads off kittens. It's what they actually do that counts. And the signs so far - the last few hundred years, right up to the present moment - aren't good.

I think it's because the priest is black, or because he's American.

quartus - 20 May 2018 07:29:44 (#10 of 73)

morning all.

hungover.

summarise won't do it justice. It was all in the delivery. There's a joke in there somewhere. midwife?

SheikYerbouti - 20 May 2018 07:42:47 (#11 of 73)

Imagine watching a sermon on YouTube. What a world.

machiavelli - 20 May 2018 08:01:37 (#12 of 73)

Zara Phillips frequently agog, it is reported.

SheikYerbouti - 20 May 2018 08:12:32 (#13 of 73)

That's quite a headline.

Message - embrace the transformative power of love, be better to each other. A very standard message for a wedding sermon, delivered by a man who clearly feels the presence of the Holy Spirit when he hits the pulpit. Passionate oratory of a kind you probably don't hear often outside of an American or African church, these days, and all the better for that. The current Archbishop of Canterbury is a decent bloke but is what he appears to be - an ex-high ranking business exec who changed direction - and not the most inspiring speaker, so this was an interesting change of pace.

He was pissed?

invicta - 20 May 2018 08:25:54 (#16 of 73)

You can sound so very small, sometimes.

thisonehasalittlehat - 20 May 2018 08:31:10 (#17 of 73)

nooooooooo!

tasselhoff - 20 May 2018 09:46:20 (#18 of 73)

I thought he was great.

SheikYerbouti - 20 May 2018 10:28:38 (#19 of 73)

Never had you down as a royal watcher, MOATY. Invicta, by contrast, grows more establishment by the day.

tasselhoff - 20 May 2018 10:50:26 (#20 of 73)

I was studiously avoiding it as my wife watched it and I reluctantly admit that it was pretty good.
