What is the single biggest mistake in world history?

Is it lockdown in the UK?

Something else? Manchester, for instance.

I'll suggest the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. Reparations, although understandable at the time were a major contributor to the start of WW2.

FleurDuMal - 14 Jun 2021 17:23:47 (#2 of 127)

Yes, that’s high in the lists.

World War I managed to kill millions of people for no good reason and led to both World War II and the Cold War which killed even more.

The Neolithic Revolution.

The Neolithic Revolution, or the (First) Agricultural Revolution, was the wide-scale transition of many human cultures during the Neolithic period from a lifestyle of hunting and gathering to one of agriculture and settlement, making an increasingly large population possible.

#6 probably the most important but was it a mistake? I understand that early farmers and hunter gatherers co existed for a long time and people chose the farming lifestyle. The reprecussions were immense though, and much of it for the worse.

Agaliarept - 14 Jun 2021 17:35:41 (#10 of 127)

probably the most important but was it a mistake?

I mean it wasn't a mistake in that people chose that lifestyle deliberately but a mistake in hindsight.

For the planet and and all the other animals, not humans obvs.

I'm tempted to say, "Adam, Eve, the serpent, and the apple." but I think electing trump was worse.
