Are you wearing your laurel to show resepect to the fallen Greek heroes?

eh?

WHY NOT???

Oldbathrobe1 - 02 Nov 2021 13:14:10 (#2 of 65)

Thermopylae had cooler uniforms. BoB had better aeroplanes.

Tadagee - 02 Nov 2021 13:17:29 (#3 of 65)

Besf way to sort would be a decider between the winning sides of each.

Seems fair enough.

Atticus - 02 Nov 2021 13:22:48 (#4 of 65)

Not sure about better but the Greeks faced ridiculously overwhelming odds by comparison to the British so a win on points for them.

phantlers - 02 Nov 2021 13:24:13 (#5 of 65)

Plus Greece is still a member of the EU.

FleurDuMal - 02 Nov 2021 13:24:28 (#6 of 65)

Brexit is more like the Pyrrhic Wars.

Here we go! Thread madness across the site. Oh joy.

Pyrrhus had at least a tactical win to boast of. Brexit is both a tactical and strategic loss.

If Corbyn had been at Thermopylae.....

Spartans outnumbered ten to one, RAF four to one, but it's easier to defend than attack.

THIS

IS

BLIGHTY

Atticus - 02 Nov 2021 13:43:10 (#11 of 65)

The King of Kings insisted, despite the overall, outcome he had won the arguments.

if you vote for the losing Spartans (and Thespians), you might as well vote for the losers at the Old Stone House during the battle of brooklyn in August 1776. 400 Marylanders under Lord Stirling held off 2000 British troops under Lord Cornwallis with repeated attacks and counterattacks, holding up the British advance long enough for Washinton to get the rest of his army back to defense lines in Brooklyn Heights.

there's a very good restaurant there now. I doubt that Thermopylae can say that.

but it's easier to defend than attack.

There's only one way to beat them: get round the back.

There's a grain silo in Stalingrad that I remember Russians pointed out cost more German lives to conquer than were lost invading France. They had to dash out and push the piles of bodies over to give the snipers a clear shout.

I've heard that Chuikov said more Germans died trying to take Pavlov's house than taking Paris.

Either way, Stalingrad and Leningrad were in a different league altogether than anything in the west.

10 easy NORTY points!

What does "better" mean in the context of the thread?

Oldbathrobe1 - 02 Nov 2021 14:12:29 (#18 of 65)

Better than the other one.

"Who would win in a fight?"

TheExcession - 02 Nov 2021 14:28:27 (#20 of 65)

The Spartans had better beards, but the RAF win in the moustache department.
