The Israel/Palestine Discussion Thread

There are far too many Israel/Palestine threads covering the same material under different titles, and occupying much of the home page. The same arguments, personal animosities and abuse cross between these threads and they are unmanageable - it is impractical for the admins to determine what is a new breach of the rules and what is a response to a breach in a different thread.

Consequently all discussion of I/P issues will now be restricted to this thread.

See first post:

  • If you think there is a genuine need for a separate thread on a specific I/P issue, consult the Admins & we will consider making an exception
  • All other new I/P threads will be deleted immediately.
  • If an exception is granted, it will be on condition that the thread starter keeps the new thread on topic and/or reports attempts to derail it.
  • Threads that descend into the usual abuse and other breaches of the T&Cs may be deleted or locked, and sanctions will be applied to the offending posters.
  • Block posting from other sites, posting copyright material beyond "fair use", and posting uncredited material, will not be tolerated anywhere on the site.

‘We have nothing left to lose. I would rather die with my family under the rubble of our house than have a humiliating truce’: Palestinian youth demand justice

http://mondoweiss.net/2014/07/humiliating-palestinian-addresses.html

There is growing evidence that it is the ordinary people of Gaza who are demanding the war be fought. They are pushing Hamas to continue, not the other way round.

The same thing happened in Stalingrad.

Off you pop then.

Its about time.

chuckle. I still doubt that there will be room for a sane discussion. but hey, if not, then only one thread to ignore. cool.

Another cease-fire for Hamas to break? Was Haniyeh consulted?

Arab TV reports say humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza imminent

7 more Israeli soldiers killed today.

When was the last time Israel lost over twenty casualties on a battlefield to Palestinians? 1967?

Your concern over the Israeli casualties is touching.

The Israeli electorate is not usually tolerant of governments that lose Israeli lives.

To Notthetalk

Regarding the restriction. Yes, there are too many I/P threads started, but to restrict to just one is extreme. You have a USA folder, a UK News folder where presumably there is a lot of cross posting. Why not a dedicated ME folder?

I say this as someone who doesn't actually create a lot of new I/P threads. When I do, it is for subjects that I think will likely remain at the top eg the apartheid in Israel thread and the replacement for the first general Israel vs Palestine thread that you closed due to its size. These are clearly two different though related topics.

they didn't say they would delete the old ones. I think they're still here.

I am a bit curious about this. Earlier today I speculated at the Guardian whethere they launched the ground offensive to actually give the Palestinians some Israelis to kill to make the death -toll look a little less one -sided in the world media, on the grounds that this might stave off international pressure for them to stop. Probably a bit too cynical even for me.

Intowntonight - 21 Jul 2014 22:54:53 (#14 of 22913)

But not too stupid for you.

I think I heard a rumor that supports your "speculation" ... it was to distract hamas whilst the IDF installed "exploding tiles".

Christ pooter the moronic things that cross your mind are hilarious. Why would a country that gives up a 1000 Palestinian terrorists for the return of a body offer up over 20 of their own including those that are dual citizens with the USA to die? You are as usual grasping for anything at all to demonize Israel and the Jews.

You're getting so pathetic it almost makes me feel sorry for you. But then I remember your posts where you applaud the cold blooded murders of Israeli civilians ... that brings what a monster you are into perspective again.

brooklyn - 21 Jul 2014 23:07:40 (#17 of 22913)

routh -- we've agreed on something! amazing!

I'm almost tempted to try again on 9-11.

but: nah.

Routh100 - 21 Jul 2014 23:13:08 (#18 of 22913)

You did understand that it was simple speculation, don't you? You are so ludicrously desperate. And by the way, doing all you can to recover captured soldiers is politically popular. A handful of soldiers dying allegedly fighting the good fight is a completely different thing.

SharkPatoo - 21 Jul 2014 23:18:39 (#19 of 22913)

Well it's certainly going well so far.
