Which country is more fucked: US or UK?

As a dual US/UK citizen, I am in quite a state of panic these days, as it seems both of my countries -- both pretty stable just a few years ago -- are now circling the drain. Each time one country looks to be pulling into the lead, the other one will overtake it, in terms of total political insanity.

Looking at the Trump vs Brexit situation, which one looks more distressing/destructive/enduring to you?

It looks to me like the US is weathering Trump way better than the UK is weathering brexit. I had planned on returning to the UK, but now I am thinking California is a better bet.

The UK is literally the worst place on Earth.

It’s amazing how these two “fucked” countries have queues of irregular immigrants massing at the borders. Almost as if they’re better than the countries they’ve come from!

Setting the bar a bit low there, VoR.

I think we can all agree with TVOR that the US and the UK are better than war-torn Syria or Afghanistan.

Only just lolz

For me, healthcare is an important factor. I can see the NHS going away after brexit, or at least being sold piecemeal to US interests so it can be restructured as a for profit system. US medicaid is pretty bad in comparison with European healthcare systems. In addition to US and UK nationality, I also have Canadian citizenship so that might be the best of all options.

We should put Harry and Meghan in charge.

Absolute monarchy doesn't sound like such a bad idea at the moment.

You're reminding me of that scene we often see in films, where our hero pulls a suitcase out from under the bed, and opens it up to reveal a stash of passports from every country you can think of, all in his name.

I just have the three, moto. I can recommend having multiple nationalities, once you get the third one it teaches not to take any of them too seriously.

My daughter had three passports, her mother two and me with just my current UK one. Irish passport application is in process though. If they both have an eu passport i’m Going to make sure I do too.

<passport envy>

I haven't even got one at the moment! I must remedy that.

At the moment the UK because trump is temporary but things can change. And will change. This is largely all about the older generation in both countries and the demographics are in our favour.

That's a bit far North for me. I was in Prudhoe not long back, though.

I mean people blame all this on social media. But actually when you look at it, it's not social media per se but the social media habits of older users, who simply have but developed the skills to adequately function in an information saturated age.

I bet all of us know and old person to whom we have had to explain that a shared Facebook post isn't strictly speaking true, and I bet many of you are that old person.

Just following your admirable lead big, er… rends.
