Donald Trump declares war on Iran

Probably not such a pushover as Bush's war on Iraq.

So who's been trying to sink foreign oil tankers then?

His Armada is on its way...

The BBC seems to have been rather ignoring the military movements .

"They aren't going to be happy"

Said the psychopath...

Yesterday, Craig Murray suggested that the 'sabotage' was very likely an American initiative to provide a case for war, now that their carriers and ships are in place. Today, it's impossible to find Craig Murray's blogs on the net.

That's been his plan. I'm not sure it's the best strategy with his base, kind of admitting he's not the magician he sold himself as being.

Buried away on the Beebs website.

Iran pointing finger at Israel.

Obviously any of the players could have blown a much bigger hole in a ship.

Sounds like the Gulf of Tonkin all over again.

An explosive charge leaves a bigger hole (Cole)

Iran might be leaving a few presents around as a shot across the bows. But Bolton has always wanted a scrap with Iran so it doesn't really matter who did it.

GrrrIbdis - 14 May 2019 18:48:20 (#11 of 54)

Iran says it wasn't them and calls the idea a lot of nonsense. Which, frankly, it seems is true, since they are not the ones looking for a fight far from home t a time of their choosing!

bossab2 - 14 May 2019 19:20:52 (#12 of 54)

Trump doesn't seem bothered about getting UN resolutions.

Jacob_Richter - 14 May 2019 19:27:22 (#13 of 54)

The idea that Iran is picking a fight with the USA and its Gulf allies is nonsense.

The Spanish are keeping out of it

So who's been trying to sink foreign oil tankers then?

Do you really need to ask?

Iranian lawmaker blames 'Israeli mischief' for tanker attacks off UAE coast

YorenInTheNorth - 14 May 2019 21:16:38 (#16 of 54)

Well Iran has form for menacing the shipping lanes and her Government is not unified.

The Revolutionary Guards are a law unto themselves and can be pig headed aggressive.

However they can't be dumb enough to challenge US interests head on can they? They are winning in Syria/Iraq and have a chance to divide the US from the EU.

Aggression now throws those gains away.

YorenInTheNorth - 14 May 2019 21:17:38 (#17 of 54)

I can see Trump welcoming a short campaign against Iran though it will be a disaster for all involved.

sugarsnappeas - 14 May 2019 21:54:49 (#18 of 54)

Iran has gotten away with terrorist attacks and assassinations for decades, the latter especially in Europe:

Why -wouldn't- they keep up these types of tactics?

brooklyn - 14 May 2019 21:57:12 (#19 of 54)

why couldn't they sink anything?

sugarsnappeas - 14 May 2019 21:57:58 (#20 of 54)

Incompetence? their bark is often far larger than their bite. I wish I had a dollar for every time they threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz.
