Amazon’s Bezos predicts only limited number of people will get to remain on Earth

“ Humanity will move most industry into space and allow only a select few to remain on our planet, which will be turned into a natural resort, according to self-funded space explorer Jeff Bezos. The Amazon billionaire enthusiastically shared his predictions for what human civilization will look like in the future – with him personally helping to bring that future closer – during a talk at the annual Ignatius Forum in Washington, DC.”

Where are the men in white coats?

They’ll be here for you soon, just keep calm.

LomaxFairchild - 13 Nov 2021 18:30:40 (#2 of 38)

This is the chief problem with tech - it's allowed emotional retards access to enormous wealth/power.

chacqueschirac - 13 Nov 2021 18:31:55 (#3 of 38)

It’s not tech, it’s hard core capitalism.

HerrWalrus - 13 Nov 2021 18:33:55 (#4 of 38)

It's platform monopolists.

Poor government from the likes of Bush and Clinton, who stopped anti-trust legislation.

chacqueschirac - 13 Nov 2021 18:35:05 (#5 of 38)

Carried on by Obama, Trump and Biden, all endorsed by voters and funded by the donor class.

The sponsors and enablers of hard core capitalism.

Tinymcsmithy - 13 Nov 2021 18:35:48 (#6 of 38)

Why do rich people think they know anything other than making money?

And why are their views given space?

Either way, it’s time for some serious wealth redistribution.

chacqueschirac - 13 Nov 2021 18:37:07 (#7 of 38)

It’s time for a serious crackdown on the madmen.

RosyLovelady - 13 Nov 2021 18:39:47 (#8 of 38)

Blah blah the politics of envy yadda yadda.

col2001 - 13 Nov 2021 18:43:19 (#9 of 38)

He's proposing to turn Earth into a gated community?

Fuck.

chacqueschirac - 13 Nov 2021 18:44:28 (#10 of 38)

He’s nuts.

Shoot him to the moon.

col2001 - 13 Nov 2021 18:46:17 (#11 of 38)

Nuts first? Or billions first?

solomongursky - 13 Nov 2021 18:46:43 (#12 of 38)

“This Earth can support, let’s say, 10 billion people to a certain degree. We’d have to work really hard to figure out how to do that without degrading the planet"

I paid for Prime, not excuses.

virgil5 - 13 Nov 2021 20:20:47 (#13 of 38)

Xi is a perfect example of how failing networks revert to tribal "strongman" traditions.

TommyDGNR8 - 13 Nov 2021 20:25:04 (#14 of 38)

Probably right, but I think it's Earth's decision, not Jeff's.

Atticus - 14 Nov 2021 02:12:13 (#15 of 38)

Rich prat talks shit. The end.

bailliegillies - 14 Nov 2021 09:27:08 (#16 of 38)

Anyone remember all the predictions about space made in the 1950s? Though I think he's right but for the wrong reasons on one part and that's the human population on earth is likely to be much reduced because the planet cannot sustain the present population.

bailliegillies - 14 Nov 2021 09:29:24 (#17 of 38)

Probably right, but I think it's Earth's decision, not Jeff's.

Agree nature is going to be the one that decides, as it has always done.

BasilSeal - 14 Nov 2021 09:40:25 (#18 of 38)

and that's the human population on earth is likely to be much reduced because the planet cannot sustain the present population.

it can't sustain the population at the current rate of consumption, if we were prepared to lead simpler. less impactful lives it could, but that would be bad news for people like Bezos whose billions derive from selling us shit we don't need.

Capitalism requires growth and you can't have never ending growth within a finite system.

chacqueschirac - 14 Nov 2021 09:40:33 (#19 of 38)

Anyone remember all the predictions about space made in the 1950s?

It’ those whacky predictions that make the conquest of space attractive to narcissistic plutocrats. They seriously believe that they can revive that “dream”.

Bezos’ weird 1950s tribute act goes along this way. They think that the fact that it is not publicly funded makes the difference.

chacqueschirac - 14 Nov 2021 09:41:50 (#20 of 38)

Capitalism requires growth and you can't have never ending growth within a finite system.

Exactly. And the fools think space is a way around that.
