Punching Nazis in the face, a moral grey area?

Is punching Nazis in the face morally justified? I have to admit I'm conflicted about the question. On the one hand it clearly violates the principle of free speech, something I passionately believe in. But on the other, if you live in a country like the USA where the government is supported by the right wing hate groups, there comes a point at which you have to fight back in order to defend yourself.

Has anybody read that Nazis are gonna march in New Jersey? Y’know, I read this in the newspaper. We should go down there, get some guys together, y’know, get some bricks and baseball bats and really explain things to them.

It was a weak-ass punch, his shoulder wasn't behind it and he caught the cheekbone instead of the jaw, it was a swinging haymaker and a jab may have been more effective. Upper-cut maybe.

Punch? God no. Iron bars? Yes.

Cormorant - 26 Jan 2017 16:52:12 (#4 of 179)

See a nazi, punch a nazi.

blaithin - 26 Jan 2017 16:52:46 (#5 of 179)

I am entirely unconflicted.

Macpaddy - 26 Jan 2017 16:57:18 (#6 of 179)

Terrible punch.

If he lived over here I'd give him free training as a reward

Judging by the guardian online at the moment 'Nazi' can mean anybody who does not vote for the liberal democrats, so no I do not think that any violence is justified.

Without going into the morality of it, I would have to agree that was a pretty weak-assed punch.

With true Nazis, as with ISIS, they probably have to be extirpated.

Cable Street.

My parents' generation did considerably more to the Nazis than punch them in the face. So this bastard should consider himself lucky.

You shouldn't punch people.

RosyLovelady - 26 Jan 2017 19:40:06 (#16 of 179)

You certainly shouldn't; and in the case of Nazis, punching would only encourage them to further extremes.

1OffManMental - 26 Jan 2017 19:40:26 (#17 of 179)

I think I agree with this:

The guy in question supports ethic cleansing. There isn't really anywhere more extreme to go.

SharkPatoo - 26 Jan 2017 19:45:13 (#19 of 179)

The guy in question supports ethic cleansing.

That's terrible, bro.
