Would you report someone to the authorities if you thought they were an illegal immigrant?

I doubt I would, unless that person was causing harm to people I knew. Smacks too much of telling the Germans in Holland in '44 - there's a girl hiding upstairs you know...

But I'm sure someone here can explain why it would help everyone to get wage increases and better health care, if only we clamped down on the "illegals".

That’s about my take on it too.

Agaliarept - 01 May 2018 14:54:37 (#2 of 73)

Would you report someone to the authorities if you thought they were an illegal immigrant?

What is this based on? You say 'thought' so in that case I wouldn't do anything based on what I reckon.

What about if someone was boasting about being an illegal and defrauding the system? What if by them not being there someone actually deserving could be?

Not really sure what I'd do. I think it would depend on a lot of variables.

DBD333 - 01 May 2018 14:56:38 (#3 of 73)

I only find out that people are illegal when they get injured and there's a whip round because they've no healthcare. I chuck in shrapnel rather than calling the cops.

thisonehasalittlehat - 01 May 2018 14:57:21 (#4 of 73)

I would.

But only if they were called Amber Rudd.

popstar7 - 01 May 2018 14:58:40 (#5 of 73)

Depends on the circumstances. Serious criminal behaviour, yes, I would. But I'd report serious criminal behaviour to the police in any case.

thisonehasalittlehat - 01 May 2018 14:59:46 (#6 of 73)

I tried reporting Amber Rudd to the police.

Brunothecat - 01 May 2018 15:00:29 (#7 of 73)

I haven't a clue what bits of paper you need to be a "legal" immigrant, so I have never thought about people I see here and there.

thisonehasalittlehat - 01 May 2018 15:02:37 (#8 of 73)

I don't believe this simply because I believe you must have thought about it given that you are a migrant.

Moschops - 01 May 2018 15:03:22 (#9 of 73)

What about if someone was boasting about being an illegal and defrauding the system?

I don't really like boastful people, so I probably would

What if by them not being there someone actually deserving could be?

That's not really how it works is it.

Agaliarept - 01 May 2018 15:06:23 (#10 of 73)

That's not really how it works is it.

Of course. I just thought the original question was a bit leading so I tried (and failed) to quickly come up with some parameters that could also demand the opposite answer.

It's just not a black and white question and I clumsily attempted to show that.

robbie76 - 01 May 2018 15:07:20 (#11 of 73)

It's just not a black and white question ..

I would hope not.

LittleMissMuffet - 01 May 2018 15:07:47 (#12 of 73)

If they were nice, then no.

If they were truly nasty people, possibly.

TRaney - 01 May 2018 15:09:55 (#13 of 73)

I would blackmail them. But then they might kill me. In mysterious circumstances. Which might coincidentally implicate a number of my other acquaintances.

Gotout - 01 May 2018 15:12:02 (#14 of 73)

Can we shop people who are half American? Yes Boris, I'm looking at you.

browserbutton - 01 May 2018 15:15:21 (#15 of 73)

Would you report someone to the authorities

No. If they get caught for being illegal it's their own lookout.

Brunothecat - 01 May 2018 15:16:47 (#16 of 73)

There's a queue is what you mean.

Not sure I agree with the reply, but certainly I view Nadine and her ilk as loathsome.

Agaliarept - 01 May 2018 15:19:31 (#18 of 73)

Hands up who else would accept a Britain full of people who've walked, swam, and strived through extreme conditions to get the chance to live here, than a Britain full of lazy racists who think they've a born right to be scumbags to total strangers without any context whatsoever.

Christ what a lovely blinkered world he must live in.
