Personally I'd decline the offer but if you want it you're more than welcome to it.

GyratingTrampoline - 13 Sep 2021 13:15:20 (#2 of 39)

I bet he dies before me

Agaliarept - 13 Sep 2021 13:18:29 (#3 of 39)

Definitely, if I could also have health and mobility.

I think in terms of human history, 70ish years is no time at all. I'm gutted I won't get to see what happens after about 2050 (if I'm lucky).

The part about watching all those you care about die would be difficult to deal with but that major hurdle aside, why wouldn't you want to see how it all turns out?

FrankieTeardrop - 13 Sep 2021 12:22:08 (#4 of 39)

Except it never will "all turn out".

I share that feeling, though - it's a story - of course you want to see what happens next...

bailliegillies - 13 Sep 2021 13:25:54 (#5 of 39)

How long can you live before you get tired of life, you've done all you want to, seen all that you can see and there is nothing left, what happens then, what are your options if you're immortal?

bossab2 - 13 Sep 2021 13:27:56 (#6 of 39)

You then build yourself a spaceship and give yourself a mission to insult everybody in the universe.

in alphabetical order

Agaliarept - 13 Sep 2021 13:28:21 (#7 of 39)

Except it never will "all turn out".

Sure it will. Eventually.

When the asteroid hits you'd just have to spend the rest of eternity floating in space.

Tinymcsmithy - 13 Sep 2021 13:29:48 (#8 of 39)

You get to go in the Tardis. I saw a documentary about it with some doctor who does it.

Tinymcsmithy - 13 Sep 2021 13:30:35 (#9 of 39)

Actually, isn’t it John Barryman who is immortal?

bailliegillies - 13 Sep 2021 13:31:20 (#10 of 39)

Isn't there an old Greek story of someone who was granted immortality, except he wasn't given eternal youth so grew old and was eventually buried.

Apparently you can't stop the body from aging.

Agaliarept - 13 Sep 2021 13:34:04 (#11 of 39)

Apparently you can't stop the body from aging.

I suppose if you find a way to transplant a brain you could keep 'replacing' the body.

Tadagee - 13 Sep 2021 13:36:26 (#12 of 39)

I've always liked this quote from Sandman, said by Death to recently deceased 'Immortal' 15, 000 year old Bernie Capex

'You lived what anybody gets, Bernie. You got a lifetime. No more. No less.'

bailliegillies - 13 Sep 2021 13:36:32 (#13 of 39)

Putting it in a machine might be better,

FrankieTeardrop - 13 Sep 2021 12:39:13 (#14 of 39)

Apparently you can't stop the body from aging.

Of course we can - we understand the mechanism of aging. Just a case of getting the tech together.

I think I'd like to live forever as long as the people I cared about did too. It would be very sad and lonely if all your friends and family had died centuries ago.

tasselhoff - 13 Sep 2021 13:46:47 (#16 of 39)

That would be horrible

carterbrandon - 13 Sep 2021 13:47:04 (#17 of 39)

#15: You could try to make new ones, but you wouldn't have much in common with them.

Agaliarept - 13 Sep 2021 13:50:22 (#18 of 39)

Putting it in a machine might be better,

Yep. I'd plump for ED-209.

I think I'd like to live forever as long as the people I cared about did too.

That could end up being pretty crowded if all your loved ones kept breeding more loved ones!

TheExcession - 13 Sep 2021 13:54:02 (#19 of 39)

You might end up being that crotchety old bastard who doesn't hold with modern things like warp drives, music that you can smell or their great-great-great-great-great-grandchildren having relationships with blue people from Alpha Centauri.

donttellhimpike - 13 Sep 2021 13:54:28 (#20 of 39)

"You lived what anybody gets, Bernie. You got a lifetime. No more. No less.'

Also said something similar to a 15 year old that had just been killed in a traffic accident that was complaining to her (Death) about the unfairness of such a short time on earth.
