Not as bad as the Welsh.

machiavelli - 13 Oct 2021 13:30:08 (#2 of 109)

According to Julian Baggani, the English are conservative communitarians.

NightInTGeorgia - 13 Oct 2021 13:34:29 (#3 of 109)

Aren’t most societies? Bit wary of change, look to their immediate community.

machiavelli - 13 Oct 2021 13:36:47 (#4 of 109)

I don't know most societies, I'm afraid.

Ebadlun - 13 Oct 2021 13:38:49 (#5 of 109)

Most of them vote for other parties, so possibly not.

FrankieTeardrop - 13 Oct 2021 12:40:14 (#6 of 109)

Not as bad as the Welsh.

haha

NightInTGeorgia - 13 Oct 2021 13:41:11 (#7 of 109)

What does he know of England who only England knows?

RosyLovelady - 13 Oct 2021 13:44:13 (#8 of 109)

It all depends innit.

TheExcession - 13 Oct 2021 13:54:08 (#9 of 109)

The English cities most certainly aren't in most cases.

machiavelli - 13 Oct 2021 14:04:25 (#10 of 109)

What does he know of England who only England knows?

I know something of Zambian societies from personal experience, less of other societies from friends and reading.

The English definitely seem to be getting more gammony, if the papers are to be believed. I was just reading that the dear old National Trust is being INFILTRATED by hard right loonies (called the Sensibles, or something).

FleurDuMal - 13 Oct 2021 14:06:59 (#12 of 109)

The English were one viewed as eccentric.

RosyLovelady - 13 Oct 2021 14:09:52 (#13 of 109)

It's all the foreign travel (more and more each year since the 1950s) that's made the nation so narrow-minded.

browserbutton - 13 Oct 2021 14:10:30 (#14 of 109)

So travel narrows the mind?

DesEsseintes - 13 Oct 2021 14:11:17 (#15 of 109)

That, and Australian newspapers, and American TV and food.

tasselhoff - 13 Oct 2021 14:11:44 (#16 of 109)

That narrows the arteries

machiavelli - 13 Oct 2021 14:21:51 (#17 of 109)

The English definitely seem to be getting more gammony, if the papers are to be believed

But if social attitudes surveys are to be believed, they're not.

TheExcession - 13 Oct 2021 14:23:54 (#18 of 109)

There is a certain vocal demographic who are unfortunately running the country at the moment - and thus get a lot of attention - whilst constantly whining that people like them are silenced.

FleurDuMal - 13 Oct 2021 14:30:01 (#19 of 109)

True dat.

popstar7 - 13 Oct 2021 14:30:45 (#20 of 109)

2019 election England -
