It includes a new version of Safari, which should be quicker. The new AirPlay media features may or may not be of interest, but it looks as if you really need a (new) Apple TV. The new wifi tethering function looks great, but is for iPhone 4 only.

Generally, it's always worth staying more or less up to date, but if there's no urgency, it won't hurt to leave it a week or two and see if other people have any problems.

It's not available yet. Out on the 11th, I think.

That personal HotSpot is the last reason I had for clinging to Android. As soon as I get these damn invoices paid I'm getting an iPhone.

Yep, I think I'll get a lot of use out of personal HotSpot.

Did they make any tweaks to iPhone 4 after those reception issues?

Yes. A free bumper. http://is.gd/RvNpHx

I love my iPhone to bits. I still have the 3G. I tried in vain to get the 4 when it came out. Then I heard about the reception problemes which put me off. I've pretty much decided to to skip the 4 and wait for the next one whatever it may be. Does anyone know anything about a possible iPhone 5.

I love my 4 so much...

And Tiny Wings. Love that (them?) too.

No, not even with the Verizon iPhone. It does have a slightly different antenna configuration, but according to Consumer Report (or whatever they're called), the issue is still there, so it doesn't seem to be related.

Personally, I can't make it drop more than a bar or two, and use a case anyway. It seems only to be a real problem if you're stuck on a shitty network. But we're past the halfway point for this cycle, so I wouldn't get one now anyway.

Given the recent iPad 2 announcement, we can assume that the iPhone 5 will have an A5 dual-core processor, though it may be underclocked slightly relative to the iPad's to save power, like the iPhone 4's A4.

TinyMcOtter - 07 Mar 2011 10:19:09 (#13 of 5946)

I got one anyway, because I broke my original 3G. Seems fine. In fact, better reception than the 3G.

Best of all, I can use IOS 4 at a reasonable speed. I.E. BBC and Guardian apps actually work. They should be fined for selling them as 3G compatible.

dmlc133 - 08 Mar 2011 17:17:38 (#14 of 5946)

I have skipped the 4 but fully intend to upgrade to the 5 come what may this summer.

iOS 4.3 in the wild.

Oh... and, hello. Again.

KuangEleven - 10 Mar 2011 00:59:41 (#16 of 5946)

Ahoy!

The Personal Hotspot is very nice; much more convenient than Bluetooth or USB, and works with Kindles, wifi-only iPads and so on. Less great if your carrier charges extra for it, I suppose.

Of course, you can only connect three devices in most cases, vs eight on Android, but I only have three wifi-enabled devices anyway, and one of them's my iPhone.

dmlc133 - 10 Mar 2011 10:31:45 (#17 of 5946)

The hotspot is iPhone 4 only I think? But I'm looking forward to a faster Safari.

Electro - 10 Mar 2011 10:37:20 (#18 of 5946)

Definitely a faster Safari on iPad 4.3

Edit: Definitely a faster Safari on iPhone 4.3

dominoboy - 21 Mar 2011 13:49:26 (#19 of 5946)

What's the hotspot thing all about, chaps?

Anyone who hasn't heard of it Stick Cricket is an amazing free game on the iPhone, and Stick Sports is a pretty cool, free website.
