A typo in 'Virus'? Must be a trojan on your machine, PW.

JohnIlly - 29 Apr 2021 15:25:17 (#2 of 351)

Otherwise, good title.

OldLefty - 29 Apr 2021 15:25:31 (#3 of 351)

You do realise that now you've posted on the thread you've stopped him fixing it?

hailesaladdie - 29 Apr 2021 15:25:52 (#4 of 351)

Yes, but I enjoy the wabi-sabi of it all.

NOTtheTalk - 29 Apr 2021 15:29:43 (#5 of 351)

It's fixable if someone asks us nicely!

Policywatcher - 29 Apr 2021 15:35:40 (#6 of 351)

Thanks for the fix.

The typo however remains in my link to here from the old thread, which I shall leave as evidence of my tendency to mistakes.

Especially as it doesn't seem to stop the link working.

:-)

tasselhoff - 29 Apr 2021 17:00:09 (#7 of 351)

Haha! Just tested that too.

Policywatcher - 01 May 2021 23:56:53 (#8 of 351)

MrsPW was complaining of low dish space.

I found about 50GB of photos there that should have been in the family NAS

So I right clicked a bunch of photo folders, dragged them over to the NAS and selected move.

They all disappeared from the PC.

They didn't all arrive at the NAS. Most did. Many did not.

No errors, no warnings, just a silent bit-bucket somewhere.

MrsPW is not at all amused.

I had not realised that they included the main (and perhaps only) copy of her photos of our only weekend holiday last year...

Verdigris - 01 May 2021 23:59:57 (#9 of 351)

I've got a foolproof way of avoiding that. I never take photos.

Big move operations, especially via drag-and-drop, seem to be rather prone to going wrong, with very undesirable results such as this.

For important data, I always copy, and check that the stuff has arrived safely, before getting rid of the original.

(In fact I have a personal theory that almost anything that gets done with drag-and-drop, would be better accomplished by other means.)

Policywatcher - 02 May 2021 08:34:04 (#11 of 351)

Yeah.

I should have used ROBOCOPY.

Tenesmus - 02 May 2021 08:46:10 (#12 of 351)

Just leave them all on the camera memory card and when it's full put in a new one.

Policywatcher - 02 May 2021 08:57:04 (#13 of 351)

Hopefully they are all still on the phone.

This was on the laptop.

MrsPW's phone doesn't have a changeable card though.

bossab2 - 02 May 2021 09:01:13 (#14 of 351)

Just leave them all on the camera memory card and when it's full put in a new one.

I tend to just buy new devices when they are full.

an excuse to upgrade.

Tenesmus - 02 May 2021 09:12:46 (#15 of 351)

Ah, my phone pics all upload automatically to Google. I should probably have a cull.

machiavelli - 02 May 2021 09:12:57 (#16 of 351)

MrsPW was complaining of low dish space.

Ladle less soup into it then.

tasselhoff - 02 May 2021 09:31:13 (#17 of 351)

I should have used ROBOCOPY.

Yeah. I used to have a little batch file for running robocopy to the NAS, with all the freshen files type options that are impossible to remember.

Policywatcher - 02 May 2021 10:40:14 (#18 of 351)

We should be able to get them back even if they aren't still on the phone (she insists they are).

They were in her profile Photos folder, so they should still be in the One Drive wastebasket.

And most of them arrived fine, so it's mostly a case of identifying and restoring the missing ones.

I suspect though that she'll start with the fastest route - trying recopying from the phone.

JDW70Wellwhynot - 05 May 2021 13:56:44 (#19 of 351)

Two small queries:

1. I use a wireless key board. Most of the keys function as normal, it seems, except the ones for sound adjustment which don't respond at all. Can they be made to respond?

2. Forms downloaded from email to Libre Office only show the first page yet when I come to print it prints them all. Can I get them to show in LO?

Thanks.

tasselhoff - 05 May 2021 14:05:11 (#20 of 351)

I could have done with this a couple of months back...
