X-box Series S

What's it all about?

I've accrued enough work points to get a free one of these.

Does anyone have one? Are they any good? It would be a gift for a 9 year old boy (and by extension his 6 year old brother and 3 year old sisters)

I'm inclined to go for it based on it being 'free' but is it free for a reason?

Work points?

I have the X-Box series X rather than series S. The X version is really impressive, but I haven't tried an S. From what I gather the main differences are:

  • The S doesn't do 4K, but that only matters if you have a 4K screen to plug it in to.
  • The S doesn't have a disc drive, so you have to download all the games. That's probably not a big deal, with downloading games becoming increasingly common as the way of getting them.
  • The S has a lower spec graphics ability.

The reviews I've read say it's not as good as the X, but still pretty decent. All, or nearly all, of the games should work on both. For free it seems to me a no-brainer to get one. If whoever you give it to doesn't like it then they could always sell it - they're probably still in high demand.

Yeah, get it as a free Christmas present for the kids.

Work points?

We can award each other points for helping each other out. Then we spend the points in a catalogue. So it's free in terms of it's not costing me a penny but not free in that I could also spend those points on other items.

From what I gather the main differences are:

Yeah I found a youtube vid that shows the differences in graphics and fps rates...it's quite noticeable but I'm not sure it's noticeable to a 9 year old.

Yeah, get it as a free Christmas present for the kids.

It is an easy dadwin.
