Absolutely! Best scenery is on the radio. Thanks for starting the thread. I've emailed MELSM but he's still MIA.

Now that's what I call Desert Island Discs.

But where's MELSM?

1MELSM - 04 Mar 2011 17:53:27 (#4 of 6927)

Well done, Electro. I had been banging my brain last night, looking around the web for inspiration, to come up with an interesting name for a good radio thread. Your choice is inspired.

Glad you've found us. Looking forward to your radio insights.

Good news, indeed. The Now Show Extra and The News Quiz Extra – extended versions of the shows on Radio 4 Extra, featuring behind-the-scenes interviews with the show's writers, producers and guests. I've always suspected the prolonged promos before The News Quiz meant they had expurgated the juicy bits! Now I will find out!

Adam and Joe are back on 6Music for anyone who CARES, next month for 12 weeks.

Radio 4 Extra? What kind of cuntery is that? There are occasional bits from Radio 3 and Radio 2, not to mention most of it being lifted directly from the Home Service...

Calling BBC7 Radio 4 Extra is daft rebranding for the sake of it. The sort of thing that, with regard to BBCTV, has made Martin Lambie-Nairn very well-off indeed.

1MELSM - 07 Mar 2011 09:25:31 (#12 of 6927)

Agreed. I'd rather BBC7 wasn't mucked about name- or function-wise. When BBC7 was set up, presumably many listeners were surprised that the BBC with its wonderful programmes archive had not done this years before.

Off work today ill, so a range of options on Radio 4:

4pm - The Food Programme - Japan's food dilemma

4.30pm - Beyond Belief - discussion about immortality.

The Now Show Extra and The News Quiz Extra

I look forward to that.

Electro - 07 Mar 2011 11:10:16 (#15 of 6927)

Me too. A new home for the best of British comedy. Can't wait. I just hope Radio 4Extra can find the extra bandwidth for stereo on DAB. Otherwise it's internet radio for me.

JerkinMcGherkin - 08 Mar 2011 08:10:15 (#16 of 6927)

The Now Show tries too hard to be trendy and "youth". The News Quiz is, however, unmissable.

Has anyone caught Saturday's Archive on 4: Murdoch at 80 yet? Steve Hewlett who has just had a piece in The Guardian about the man, has assessed his influence by means of what will probably have been the quality presentation plus interviews with the likes of Brenda Dean, Asa Briggs and Barry Humphries.

Yes, it's always annoying when a series of The News Quiz finishes. It's not as though they've run out of material. Politicians keep providing new fodder every week.
