The Gogglebox Thread

I'm a recent convert to Gogglebox but I'm hooked.

Talk here about people watching the telly

Snacks, takeaways and huge goblets of booze compulsory

I couldn't find a thread so started this one. I'm hooked after people kept telling me to watch.

Watching people watching telly- it will never take off.

My beef from last week's, the Nigel Farage loving idiot who said that nurses aren't academic; let's hope she doesn't need hospital treatment any time soon.

Why does the young round child screech all the time?

Elsie69 - 08 Apr 2014 09:09:28 (#3 of 1736)

Loved the comment along the lines of 'what channel is this on? Oh god, channel 4? stupid People will watch and then vote ukip.' Put straight after the nurses comment woman.

Yes, good old Leon.

I caught a bit for the first time on Friday night. A lot of screeching voices.

And one of the gay couple was a very strange hue of orange.

I love this - much as I reckon some of it could be scripted and/or reactions 'staged', it's still great viewing.

Will the Liverpudlian (boyfriend?) ever speak?

Will Essex Dad stay awake for an entire programme at some point?

Is the Rev's dog dead?

Anyone notice how Leon/June always change the pics on the table? I think it's down to who's their favourite that particular week.

The B&B couple are my favourite, though he has been disappointingly sober the last couple of weeks.

I haven't noticed Leon and June's pictures.

Does the Rev's husband speak? He's another mute. Are they a new introduction this series? I don't recall seeing them at the end of last series, when I first started watching

katspam - 08 Apr 2014 09:47:22 (#9 of 1736)

Rev's husband has spoken. He is not quite as bright as she is.

The heavy metal boyfriend has never spoken, it cracks me up when they zoom in on his emotionless face. He did do a mild eye roll the other day though. His hair is a thing of wonder.

I like the gay (ex) couple, they say similar things (well maybe not the dildo thing) to my family

katspam - 08 Apr 2014 09:48:56 (#11 of 1736)

Are they an ex couple? That makes sense, I couldn't work out if they were together or not.

I totally love this programme, but the knowingness has crept in a bit, like it did with Big Brother after the first series.

I love Gogglebox (great name) so much I watch the repeats. The screechy voices astonish me. Some families scream and shout at each other when they are separated by no more than 18 inches of space between them. Do they do this in the real world? Do they get punched?

EffBee - 08 Apr 2014 10:21:59 (#14 of 1736)

The young round child has been in bother at school - which came as no surprise to me. Such a brat!

The Rev and her quiet partner are new this series. As are the family (Mum, Dad and gobby daughter) from the north east.

The Goggleboxers are all loving friends or family, and the children are just being children of very boisturous homes. Their parents scream at them (oh, Mrs Tapper, do shush), so they respond in kind. I just wonder if they are able to adjust to other people outside. It comes across as high-level aggression when they scream and stab fingers, and must get them in trouble unless they have the sense to tone it down.

Young Josh Tapper is a gem, thoughbut.

I've warmed to Essex son (George?) this series too. Very dry sense of humour...

Rendered - 08 Apr 2014 10:34:20 (#18 of 1736)

I'm guessing George is much younger than he looks.

Vassant - 08 Apr 2014 10:38:00 (#19 of 1736)

I was loving his mother, Linda(?), till she turned away from the gay marrieds who kissed lips. She does support TheGayers having rights and all, but just couldn't watch the kiss. Eugh, no, she said, turning away.

I was so disappointed. I had thought her a good kind soul. Well, she probably still is, but with a foot still stuck in a time gone by.

foxybrown - 08 Apr 2014 10:39:38 (#20 of 1736)

George's voice is horrible.

I read about some of them somewhere. George, I think, is a recent divorcee(e?) whose returned home and the gays are an ex couple, one was too cutting to the other.
