I am just looking forward to Martin Freeman's Minnesota accent.

roguestate - 17 Apr 2014 18:23:55 (#2 of 1284)

It's all quite good, and poor Martin Freeman is ace.

Moominmamma12 - 17 Apr 2014 18:24:54 (#3 of 1284)

I'm so glad it's on C4 and not space telly too.

MonsoonBloom - 17 Apr 2014 18:58:57 (#4 of 1284)

It's all space telly now.

rgtstoppedcounting - 17 Apr 2014 19:08:46 (#5 of 1284)

Martin Freeman is....Martin Freeman.

Moominmamma12 - 17 Apr 2014 19:19:18 (#6 of 1284)

It's all space telly now.

That's true.

MonsoonBloom - 17 Apr 2014 19:23:59 (#7 of 1284)

Sorry I think it's that we're all Americans now actually. I get them mixed up.

Not sure what to think of the first episode. I was blown away by the trailers but am not sure the episode lived up to them. I can live with Freeman's dodgy accent but I won't be able to put up with too many one dimensional characters such as Nygaard's erstwhile school nemesis Sam Hess, who seemed to be channeling Biff Tannen from Back To The Future.

Still, it had flashes of brilliance that make me want to watch some more, Nygaard's exclamations of "oh Jeez" as he commits an unspeakable act, Bob Odenkirk's comic relief as a cop with a dodgy stomach, Colin Hanks' brilliantly understated role as small time cop/devoted father, Billy Bob Thornton clearly having a blast as mischievous psychopath, and most of all Allison Tolman as Molly, who shows promise in the most difficult role of all, being a replacement for Marge Gunderson from the original film, and my own choice as the greatest movie character of all time.

All the reviewers who have seen the first four episodes say it's brilliant, I hope they're right.

I'm sure it'll get better, and it was certainly good, but not *quite* as good as I had hoped. Maybe my expectations have been raised by True Detective and the like.

Moschops - 18 Apr 2014 17:52:51 (#10 of 1284)

I thought it didn't start until Sunday?

AppleCatcher - 18 Apr 2014 18:32:54 (#11 of 1284)

Wasn't Nygard a character in Borgen? I am confused.

Electro - 18 Apr 2014 18:38:06 (#12 of 1284)

No. Birgitte Nyborg Christensen was PM

peacalmer - 20 Apr 2014 21:46:12 (#13 of 1284)

I'm enjoying it so far. "What should I put down as the cause of death?" "Self explanatory".

Pinkgum - 20 Apr 2014 21:49:31 (#14 of 1284)

Me too, its kooky, I'm liking the shit stirring assassin.

predicated - 20 Apr 2014 21:52:51 (#15 of 1284)

Almost missed it, C4+1 in a few minutes' time.

Electro - 20 Apr 2014 22:50:03 (#16 of 1284)

Billy Bob Thornton never fails to entertain!

Electro - 20 Apr 2014 22:50:34 (#17 of 1284)

Great name, too...Lorne Malvo!

Vassant - 20 Apr 2014 22:54:20 (#18 of 1284)

For reasons I needn't go into now, I have spent the evening in a seething impotent rage. Short of turning into Carrie White overnight, the second best option would appear to be a passing conversation with Billy Bob Thornton.

I wasn't too taken with the first ep. It's weird watching Martin Freeman impersonate Bill Macy but what's weirder still is Billy Bob's mannered performance and his terrible rug. I hope it get better and isn't just a 90 minute classic expanded way beyond it's natural life.

Vassant - 20 Apr 2014 23:37:08 (#20 of 1284)

Billy Bob's syrup was very distracting. All the blood and gore faded into the background.
