Well, they're trying.

FleurDuMal - 05 Mar 2017 20:55:30 (#2 of 259)

Very trying.

StakludKar - 05 Mar 2017 21:13:03 (#3 of 259)

I ended up watching this over call the midwife.

Scripted bantz but hey.

PolishMark - 05 Mar 2017 22:28:00 (#4 of 259)

I think the balance and format was a lot better than Chris Evans era. Still an over-reliance on scripted banter, but the format has legs.

Shabbyman - 05 Mar 2017 22:46:39 (#5 of 259)

The other lot weren't exactly doing improv

indlovubill - 05 Mar 2017 23:26:14 (#6 of 259)

Well, they're trying.

Trying very hard to be funny and they're not, tonight's offering was absolute shite.

thePiMan - 06 Mar 2017 09:01:18 (#7 of 259)

Can we assume you won't be here to comment next week then as you won't be watching? Hope so.

Anyway, much better without Chris Evans. I like Chris Harris' enthusiasm, thought Le Blanc was more relaxed but I'm not sure about Rory Reid yet.

Still, enjoyable enough, certainly better than what the other three produced for The Grand Tour

mememe - 06 Mar 2017 09:03:20 (#8 of 259)

Yes. The Grand Tour was crap. I think everyone can agree on that.

Moschops - 06 Mar 2017 09:10:01 (#9 of 259)

These 3 need to go out and get pissed together or something, it all felt a bit forced (to be fair it probably was in the early days of the Amazon 3 as well)

One thing they can't do for rather obvious reasons is take the piss out of each other as Jezza and Co did.

Tagyourit - 06 Mar 2017 09:46:29 (#11 of 259)

The Grand Tour was crap. I think everyone can agree on that.

I enjoyed quite a bit of it and it was a lot better than the Chris Evans Top Gear, but the GT format will probably need and get a major tweak for the next series.

FrankieTeardrop - 06 Mar 2017 09:52:10 (#12 of 259)

My five month old daughter enjoyed it. She particularly liked the Ferrari.

Yeah I think the scriptwriters are still writing as though the dynamic is the same as it was with the other three. They need to find their own voice. Still I think its looking a lot better than the Evans series.

The Grand Tour was crap. I think everyone can agree on that.

It was crap in the same way the last half dozen TG series with Clarkson were - a tired format, same old bants, and 'look the truck is on fire LOLZ'. It was a format that badly needed some rethinking, and instead the GT people opted for the same old shit but bigger, brassier and stupider.

Moschops - 06 Mar 2017 09:55:20 (#14 of 259)

What obvious reasons? I reckon the other 2 could get a fair bit of Friends\Hollywood Superstar pisstaking out of MLB, and to judge by his performance in Episodes he'd be a good enough sport to take it.

zardoz - 06 Mar 2017 09:59:22 (#15 of 259)

I think we all know what obvious reasons billers is alluding to, eh readers?

FrankieTeardrop - 06 Mar 2017 10:01:14 (#16 of 259)

knowing wink

Moschops - 06 Mar 2017 10:03:34 (#17 of 259)

What, because they are black?

Hmm, maybe billers is right. Was the fact he chose to slice through a watermelon some sort of secret White Power code?

thePiMan - 06 Mar 2017 10:20:16 (#18 of 259)

The issue with the scripting could well be that the script is being written by people other than the presenters and it is very difficult to script banter for other people.

Old Top Gear was mainly written by Clarkson who knew the dynamics and personalities.

mememe - 06 Mar 2017 10:26:09 (#19 of 259)

They'll get better. It's a damn sight better than last year.

The problem they have is that they've sold it to so many countries, so the format can't change that much. But I thought it was reasonably good.

Moschops - 06 Mar 2017 10:41:48 (#20 of 259)

I quite enjoyed it. Think it's a good idea to use a faster car for the 'Star' bit, will presumably lead to an increase in out-of-control bits
