The Mash Report - BBC2's new topical comedy show.

Starting tonight. It has writers from the UK's Onion-like website, The Daily Mash. Please let it be funny.

Googled it. Back on 18th Jan.

Ah, good.

xbod72 - 18 Jan 2018 16:53:34 (#122 of 365)

A reminder that it's back tonight.

Looking at the theatre of war in that Army advert - are we invading Wales?

Verdigris - 18 Jan 2018 22:31:16 (#124 of 365)

Whales can give you a nasty nip.

Ebadlun - 18 Jan 2018 22:36:54 (#125 of 365)

Serves you right for invading them.

I really enjoy Rachel Parris's character for this programme.

xbod72 - 19 Jan 2018 05:08:19 (#127 of 365)

I'm not sure about it.

browserbutton - 19 Jan 2018 06:37:52 (#128 of 365)

It's not very funny. It doesn't know what it is really.

frantastic - 19 Jan 2018 11:36:01 (#129 of 365)

I laughed a lot but it does need to calm down a bit. Apart from the news readers everyone is trying too hard.

Arjuna - 19 Jan 2018 11:57:14 (#130 of 365)

fair point, sometimes I feel they are pushing the jokes too far.

I didn't see this episode only the clip about 'the man who wanted credit for not being a mysogynist'. I laughed but only because Matt Damon had already made it an actual news story.

was I missing something?

xbod72 - 19 Jan 2018 12:00:28 (#131 of 365)

I'm being unnecessarily unkind, I suppose, but I can't help but feel that Kumar's placing of his head on the desk with face hidden is because he can't fake corpse convincingly.

HouseOfLametta - 19 Jan 2018 12:01:03 (#132 of 365)

It doesnt fucking stop him.

xbod72 - 19 Jan 2018 12:03:14 (#133 of 365)

In English?

HouseOfLametta - 19 Jan 2018 12:05:13 (#134 of 365)

Yes, he is English, you can’t make assumptions like that.

xbod72 - 19 Jan 2018 12:06:23 (#135 of 365)

No, I'm talking about putting

I’d doesnt fucking stop him.

into an English translation for us, you twit.

Anyway, I note that this series is only six episodes long. I know we don't tend to go for the long series the way the Americans do but I feel that for a programme like this you'd ideally want everyone involved to get into a groove. This lot might get into a groove after six episodes and then they'll be out on their ear for half a year or something and will return cool if at all.

frantastic - 19 Jan 2018 12:12:55 (#137 of 365)

I even laughed at token Tory.

xbod72 - 19 Jan 2018 12:13:35 (#138 of 365)

Token Tory gave me my only genuine laugh out loud with his "torching villages" comment.

Verdigris - 19 Jan 2018 12:15:41 (#139 of 365)

Probably not coincidentally, they had a discussion about right-wing comedy on Today, this morning. The punching up/down argument came into play.

There was a lot to enjoy. In particular I thought the Rachel Parris section about sexual harassment was a hoot.

Oddly enough the bits that don't work are the ones which most relate to The Daily Mash. I can imagine laughing at the boyfriend saying the wrong thing on the website but it all seemed a bit leaden when dramatised.

Plus I've no objection to Geoff Norcott being a token Tory, I just don't think he's a good enough comic.
